Climate, Controls & Security, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX), is seeking an Electronic Design Engineer for its facility located in Syracuse, NY.

The Electronic Design Engineer will support the design and development of electronic circuit board assembly controls for embedded HVAC and refrigeration products from concept through production.

Design responsibilities include the development and analysis of: analog, digital and power circuits including 12-24 bits ADCs, 8/16/32bit ¿5Ps and ¿5Cs, displays, sensors, electromechanical power switches, and AC/DC, linear and switching power supplies

Additional responsibilities include:
Support creation of documentation including technical requirements, functional specifications, design specifications, qualification test plans and reports and product change notices

Generate schematics and support PCB layout designers

Support current production designs including quality improvements, cost reduction, component obsolescence and failure analysis

Evaluate and approve electronic components to meet requirements for availability, performance and cost

Evaluate failures to determine root cause and corrective actions

Participate with product teams on design development activities

Interface and support validation, verification and manufacturing engineers and technicians with product and manufacturing testing

Apply knowledge of DOE, FMEA, tolerance analysis, simulation and statistical methods to improve robustness and quality of electronic design

BS/BA degree in Electrical Engineering with 0 to 5 plus years of related work experience.

MS/MA degree in Electrical Engineering with 0 to 2 plus years of related work experience.

Strong functional knowledge of electronic components and circuits including microprocessors, microcontrollers, op-amps, regulators, standard digital logic ICs, and discrete semiconductors (diodes, transistors, FETS, triacs) is required

Familiarity with basic electronic test equipment such as DVMs, Oscilloscopes and Power Supplies is required

Knowledge of schematic capture, PCB layout, simulation and C programming skills is required

Good documentation and presentation skills using MS Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required

Knowledge of design and analysis tools such as VHDL, Minitab, MatLab, PSpice is preferred

Familiarity with electronic assembly and soldering of components is preferred

Knowledge of FMEA ('9s, electrical stress analysis calculations, EMI and EMC PCB layout techniques is preferred.

Familiar with root cause / troubleshooting techniques for electronic assemblies.

Familiarity with Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning systems highly desirable
