OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :|
General Services Operations provides building and office services at Headquarters in support of PAHO/WHO programs, such as general supervision of acquisition and maintenance of all PAHO/WHO premises at Headquarters and in the Field. Responsible for building facilities and maintenance, inventories, office supplies and equipment, transportation, security and safety, printing reproductions, conferences, interpreters; security focal point within PAHO and the UN security system.
Description of duties:
Under the general supervision of the Manager, General Services Operations (GSO), and the direct supervision of the General Services Support Specialist, GSO/GS, the incumbent is responsible for, but not necessarily limited to, the following assigned duties:
a) Oversee the operation and maintenance of the Digital Audio Interpretation equipment in conference rooms at Headquarters;
b) Install, calibrate, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on the Digital Audio Interpretation equipment;
c) Oversee all assignments of meeting facilities at Headquarters; update the Intranet Meeting Schedule;
d) Oversee the videoconference facilities; assign staff as necessary to operate the video-conference equipments; configure the videoconference equipment to be used through the IP, GPN or ISDN lines;
e) Install and operate, or assign staff to operate, the various electronic and audiovisual equipment including video projectors and video-graphics interface devices in connection with personal computers and laptops to project computerized presentations.
f) Maintain a roster of qualified freelance conference room service personnel required to support internal and external meetings; issues request for contracts, assign work, train and provide guidance;
g) Program data and information's requirements for Governing Bodies meetings into the computer's software that controls the operation of the microphones of the Digital Audio Interpretation equipment in the conference rooms;
h) Provide technical recommendations on the purchase and installation of communications and audiovisual equipments/systems;
i) Provide, design and plan for electronic interface of devices to link all Audio & Visual system at Headquarters;
j) Prepare engineering studies and reports, and provide recommendations regarding the purchase, repair or upgrade of the Organization's audiovisual equipments and the audio interpretation system;
k) Install and/or oversee the set up of conference room equipment, assign staff to operate it, and arrange for all necessary services and supplies for smooth operation of meetings;
l) Oversee the rental of Headquarters conference rooms to external groups, including arrangements with customers, staff, and invoice users after meeting;
m) Supervise staff assigned to audiovisual functions, as well as free-lance conference room service personnel to support internal and external conferences and meetings.
n) Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Essential: High school diploma with formal training in the electronics field
Desirable: A diploma in Electronics Technology or Electronics Technology & Advance Troubleshooting or an Associate in Applied Science in Electronic Engineering Technology would be an asset.

-- Administrative support for technical cooperation interventions: Searches for and furnishes relevant information about resource allocation and deadlines, potential critical points, risks and benefits, and other related aspects of available options to provide support for the technical cooperation teams.
- Very good knowledge with extensive training and experience in troubleshooting and problem solving professional grade digital audio interpretation equipment such as BRAHLER and DIS (Danish Interpretation System).
- Very good knowledge and abilities in the installation, configuration and operation of professional videoconference equipment such as Polycom, Cisco and Tandberg.
- Excellent skills in the installation and proper handling of shielded CAT 5 wire used for digital audio purposes, use of tools to attach connectors.
- Ability to effectively use electronic testing and measurement instruments such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, audio oscillators, etc.
- Ability to assemble auxiliary electronic devices which are needed to connect the various electronic hardware and system.
- Ability to build a device using circuit board, transistors, capacitors, etc; ability to install, operate and repair moderately complex specialized electronics equipment including LCD and DMD projectors, computerized microphone systems, equalizers, amplifiers, etc.
- Ability to connect Laptops and PCs to Video-Graphics Interface devices and projectors for presentations.
- Ability to write and organize routine and non-routine correspondence and reports.
Seven years of experience in the installation, maintenance, repair and operation of analog and digital professional audio interpretation systems, videoconference equipment and computerized audiovisual equipment for conferences, or five years of experience in the installation, maintenance, repair and operation of analog and digital professional audio interpretation systems, videoconference equipment and one year of college or university level courses towards a declared major/minor in the area of electronic technology.
Very good knowledge of English with a working knowledge of Spanish.
