This position is responsible for providing coaching, co-teaching, and job-embedded professional development related to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and Essential Standards aligned with state and federal laws.
This position supports teachers in improving instructional practices that facilitate learning by modeling effective instructional practices and coaching teachers on how to enhance student learning in all curriculum areas. The Elementary Instructional Coach will provide guidance to teachers to support their efforts in actively using formative and summative assessments, and assist with the use of technology to support 21st century teaching and learning.
The Elementary Instructional Coach will visit schools on a regular basis, observe and co-teach classroom literacy instruction, provide feedback regarding literacy-related instructional practices to teachers and administrative staff, and work with teachers to develop strategies to support struggling students.
This position will be based in Wilson county schools and require up to 25% travel in and around Wislon county. This position is subject to a criminal background check.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
An ideal candidate will have knowledge and competence in elementary grade core content areas of the Standard Course of Study and Essential Standards, as well as expertise in recognizing, demonstrating, and evaluating effective instructional practices, methodologies, and/or strategies. Knowledge of instructional practices that effectively engage elementary students is essential, as is an understanding of the impact of diversity on learning. In addition, the ideal candidate will have the ability to appropriately utilize formative, diagnostic, and summative assessments, participate effectively in professional collaboration within the school’s professional learning community, and successfully demonstrate the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning. The ideal candidate will also have excellent literacy, problem-solving, team-building, interpersonal, and self-assessment/self-awareness skills.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
A master's degree in Education and a minimum of four years of specifically related experience in education. Preference will be given to candidates with experience relating to the area of specialization of the specific position; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
A competitive candidate will have at least 5 years of successful experience teaching at the elementary level and successful experience teaching, training and/or coaching adult learners including experience as a mentor, curriculum facilitator or other leadership position in a local education agency. NC Teaching Licensure and National Board Certification is also preferred.
