Riverbend Elementary School

This is an interim position and will be a one-year only contract for the 2013/14 school year.

POSITION : The Juneau School District, located in Alaska's capital city, is seeking an outstanding instructional leader to serve as Interim Principal of Riverbend Elementary School beginning with the 2013-14 school year. Riverbend Elementary School has a culturally rich student population with approximately 300 students grades PreK-5. The District is seeking an individual who is committed to increasing student achievement, educating students for effective citizenship, and assuring system wide structures that support achievement, inclusion, and graduation for all students.

The successful candidate will be dedicated to achieving academic excellence and lifelong learning, as well as, the ability to make collaborative decisions; ensure a safe school environment; be committed to parental involvement and school/community partnerships; advocate for students, parents and staff of the school community; and have broad-based community involvement and inter-agency cooperation.

REQUIREMENTS:
Have, or ability to obtain upon hire, a valid Alaska Type-B administrative certificate with elementary principal endorsement.
Three years of successful teaching experience.
Three years administrative experience, minimum.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong knowledge and background in literacy instruction.
Proven leadership skills including staff development and evaluation.
Successful experience in serving children of varied ethnic, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
Successful (K-5) teaching experience.
Actively promote a safe, violence-free school.
Encourage and respect varying teaching models.

Demonstrated experience in and application of education technology in the elementary school.
Demonstrated skills as a team builder, mediator and facilitator.
Demonstrated experience in successful, equitable, consistent student behavior management and follow through.
Knowledge of special education programs and requirements.
COMPENSATION: $84,204 - $108,363 D.O.E. for a 200-day contract, with an excellent benefit package including medical, dental, vision and membership in the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) plan.
