This is a high-profile, high-impact opportunity to develop embedded software and hardware that will radically change how we explore space.We will be asking the following questions. When you respond to this position, please answer the following questions: - Experience Configuring custom linux kernel --- Have you customized a linux kernel? Have you added a custom device driver? Have you stripped it down to work on a specific piece of hardware due to memory limitations? Have you booted off of RAM disk through network? Have you built a custom kernel for a specific piece of hardware that isn't a computer? Customized linux kernel for embedded device?- Multi-threaded programming (mutex, coordination)- Distributed programming (data comm., synchronization)- C/C++ -- REQUIRED --- to understand memory allocation, VxWorks a plus- ***UNIX system development- 'Linux System Hacker' -- have you ever messed around with linux task scheduler.. Run tasks at higher priorities, have you played around with realtime extensions in linux, C++ in VxWorks
Applicants should hold a B.S. (or higher) in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering and have excellent embedded systems development skills. A strong background in Linux-based development and open-source tools is required, plus: • 2+ years of experience on a complex embedded systems project• 2+ years of software development experience with C++ and Javausing Linux and open-source tools (gcc, svn, gdb, etc.)• Solid experience with device drivers and/or kernel hackingIn addition, knowledge in one (or more) of the following areas is greatly preferred: • Distributed and multi-threaded programming• Data communications and/or protocols (USB, CANbus, serial, TCP/IP, high-performance middleware)• Embedded hardware: microcontrollers, I2C, sensorsThe NASA Ames Intelligent Robotics Group (IRG) is dedicated to enabling humans and robots to explore and learn about extreme environments, remote locations, and uncharted worlds.
