Job Description:
The Employee Experience Manager works as a member of the Shipboard Human Resources Department, reporting to the Director, Human Resources Operations.

Leads and manages important employee experience programs to improve the living/working environment for all team members onboard the vessels as well as leads the employee relations area ensuring all employee contacts are answered promptly, have closure and minimize risk of employment liability. Generally works with considerable independence and prioritizes work to support the Company’s HR strategy.

This position works closely with the Director, Human Resources Operations; Shipboard Human Resources Directors and Department Heads; Shipboard Operations Vice Presidents and Directors; Vice President of Shipboard Human Resources and various other members of the Human Resources Team.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides consultation and support in creating, maintaining and improving a positive work and living environment for shipboard team members utilizing programs, tools, services and resources available
  • Proactively manages current employee welfare programs that create positive experiences for shipboard team members including but not limited to; Crew Internet in Various Ports, Crew Bicycle Program, Crew Recreation Equipment, Various Crew Events & Parties onboard and off site
  • Responsible to create and manage new initiatives that offer concrete new benefits and positive experiences for employees that enhance the work and living environment onboard the vessels
  • Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources Operations coordinates with various departments and leaders within Ship Operations to manage new and refurbished hardware projects onboard the vessels including crew bathrooms, cabins, gyms, lounges, outdoor deck/recreation areas and other areas onboard the vessel that affect the employee experience or work and living environment
  • Plan and develop benefits and team member experiences that promote and enhance team member well-being, improve employee retention and assist the company in maintaining and enhancing its standing as being an employer of choice
  • Supports the shipboard management and Human Resources Directors on employee engagement initiatives
  • Champion change to policy or to benefits that are positive to employees yet reasonable from the company’s perspective
  • Ensures all employee matters, reported through above-vessel mechanisms such as Compliance/ Employee Hotline, Open Door Process, Direct Emails, Appeals, Blog Comments, Letters and/or calls, etc., are assigned appropriately, monitored for timeliness, thoroughness, fairness and when needed are treated with sensitivity, empathy and confidentiality
  • Manages employee relations and ethic compliance matters ensuring all team members are treated fairly and with the utmost respect
  • Conducts on-site employee relations interventions and/or investigations as needed in a timely and thorough manner and presents alternative solutions to issues and employee reporting options by leveraging the broader organization
  • Monitors all assigned investigations and employee relations (ER) reports for timelines and thoroughness and reviews investigation closure notes from the ships to ensure fairness, proper judgment is used; reports are accurate and thorough, before closing case in the ER system
  • Oversees appeal process for shipboard terminations/suspensions ensuring employees were treated fairly, correct judgment and action was used in the interpretation of policy
  • Creates and maintains proper documentation on all cases and completes all employee relations (ER) reporting in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Manages and administers the ER system and database, communicates, creates, utilizes and/or distributes analytical reports, tools and techniques produced by ER system, compliance investigations and HR audit results to identify current statistics and/or trends
  • Lead liaison for shipboard HR support on subjects such as but not limited to: HR policy interpretation, development and revision of HR Services Standard Operating Procedures, development of Employee Handbooks and updates to HR Audit
  • Lead liaison to Corporate Director of Ethics and Compliance
  • Travel potential 25-30%
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Mnimum of two to three years of experience in an HR management role
  • Knowledge of cruise ship operations is advantageous
  • Knowledge of onboard working/living environment
  • Experience dealing with employee relations within a culturally diverse and global work environment
  • Experience in interviewing and investigations techniques for effective and thorough employee relations and ethic compliance investigations
  • Literate in employment law
  • Global Human Resources experience preferred
  • Ability to be an advocate for employees, has good listening skills and a balanced mind-set
  • Genuine care for people, shows sensitivity and empathy when needed
  • Strong coaching and problem solving skills for decision making
  • Effective influencing skills along with good negotiating and consensus building skills
  • Strong communications skills (verbal, listening, and writing).
  • Excellent communication both verbal and written
  • Manages group or interpersonal conflict situations effectively – mediation skills are a plus
  • Demonstrates leadership skills, self-confidence, energy and enthusiasm
  • Ability to network and build business relationships, via telephone and/or in-person
  • Maintains confidentiality and shares information with only those who have a need to know
  • Readily critiques own behavior to acknowledge mistakes and improve future leadership performance and acts independently to improve and increase skills and knowledge
  • Presents ideas, expectations and information in a concise, well-organized way
  • Able to effectively assess risk against business benefit
  • Effective change management and strategic planning skills
  • Multi-lingual, preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Global Human Resources Certification (GPHR) preferred
