Primary Characteristics
The Employee Relations Advisor’s responsibilities are to reduce company-wide risk by helping to resolve employee matters that have not been resolved within their own departments. This role supports the organizational objectives while serving as a liaison to foster positive relations in the workplace.

Essential Functions
• Provide counsel and recommendations to managers on employee relations issues and/or employment related concerns; provide guidance on best employment practices and collaborate with other parts of HR as needed to resolve issues within business units
• Provide initial review, recommendations and/or approval for involuntary terminations; submit to ER & Compliance Manager for final review and approval
• Protect the company by ensuring that written documentation prepared by supervisors and managers is legally sound and helps reduce employment-related risk
• Review and approve all performance improvement plans; follow-up with employees and their managers after a performance document has been delivered to make sure that improvement has been made or that communication regarding the necessary improvement continues
• Conduct internal investigations on employee-related matters, including harassment, discrimination, or other work-related matters. Make recommendations, provide analysis along with applicable reporting to attorneys and business leaders
• Meet with employees who have a grievance that has not been resolved within their own department or that has been reported directly to HR
• Provide HR support for employee separations, including exit interviews, acting as a witness for terminations and overseeing reductions in force, as needed
• Partner with the relationship manager on high-level employee-related matters
• Work with managers, administrative support personnel, HR Relationship Managers and others in HR to ensure that all HR-related data for the business units is correct
• Provide HR support and leadership during company acquisitions, as needed
• Develop and implement proactive methods to increase retention of good performers and reduce turnover; partner with HR and business units
• Oversee and/or support HR initiatives and company-wide objectives (i.e. coaching supervisors and managers to become better leaders, employee engagement, coordination of employee programs)
• Work to implement and support diversity/outreach activities towards meeting our affirmative action goals; provide recommendations on programs and initiatives in support of goals
• Educate supervisors and managers regarding the company’s AAP requirements and their role in helping us work toward AAP goals
• Analyze data and make recommendations on topics such as reasons for turnover, reasons for Performance Improvement Plans within assigned business units, and other people-related matters
• Work with client groups and L&OD to submit articles to internal HR e-newsletter pertaining to retention, diversity/AAP initiatives, employee programs, getting to know EverBank series or other employee related topics
• Record recaps of interactions with employees and managers in the ADP system so that the company has a record of the conversations that have taken place
• Other employee relations duties as assigned, such as coordination of compliance-related training, review of employee relations policies and procedures, presentation of training classes for new supervisors and managers, and oversight of immigration-related issues

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements)
• Ability to work independently and to use various sources, such as HR peers and professional publications, to recommend and implement initiatives
• Strong knowledge of employment-related laws and practices
• Knowledge of how to extract and analyze data from human resources information systems and applicant tracking systems
• Ability to write concise, fact-based, error-free documents
• Strong interpersonal skills; able to relate with people of all levels in the organization
• Strong presentation skills
• Ability to conduct employee interviews and to determine which facts are pertinent to the investigation
• Ability to quickly understand the metrics and practices of the various internal departments of EverBank
• Ability to push back to managers as needed, such as when their documentation does not yet meet company standards
• Ability to travel to other offices within our family of companies as needed
• Excellent computer skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, internet searches, WORD, HRIS and applicant tracking systems

Training and Experience
• 5+ years of HR experience in employee relations as defined above
• Continuing education via conferences and seminars to stay current on employment-related laws
• 2-3 years experience using and extracting data from human resource information systems and applicant tracking systems
• 1-2 years recruitment experience using applicant tracking software preferred
• 1-2 years experience promoting and coordinating employee programs preferred
• Demonstrated experience in increasing company diversity preferred
• Human Resources degree or SHRM certification preferred
• Experience with multiple company acquisitions strongly preferred
• Experience overseeing HR compliance-related controls and initiatives strongly preferred
• 5+ years of successful supervisory experience in the mortgage or banking industry can substitute for the HR experience above. In order to meet this requirement, candidates should have hired, supervised, and coached a team of more than ten employees.
