Nature of work: The Global Energy Consulting Practice is looking for highly motivated individuals with an interest in the energy industry who will contribute to projects covering such topics as regulatory policy, transmission development, all types of renewable and thermal generation, enterprise risk management, and energy IT. A key aspect of the work is the ability to synthesize a large body of facts into useful conclusions through rigorous quantitative methods. The Practice's Analysts provide the critical role of researching key inputs, carrying out the analyses, and supporting the effort to package conclusions for client deliverables. Project work is often subject to intense scrutiny from developers, investors, regulators, or opposing parties, so organization, intellectual precision, and attention to detail is critical. Successful analysts are capable of responding quickly to change and have an active desire to expand their skills and knowledge.
Role Development: Each member of PA’s staff attends five business/consultant training days per year and receives continuous feedback through line management and performance review processes. Types of training courses include consulting skills, project management, and account management.
Education Required: Bachelor's degree, preferably in economics, finance, engineering, or similar fields.
Experience: None required, though energy experience and coursework is a plus.
Skills Desired: Demonstrated skills in economics, financial analysis, spreadsheet analysis, power systems analysis, or basic research (information gathering). We look for proven ability in quantitative and qualitative analysis and the ability to analyze economic problems with good intuition. Strong interpersonal skills are also important. The strongest candidates will have a grounding and deep interest in the energy industry.
Software: Strong Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills required. Familiarity with Access or other relational database preferred.
