As an Engineer 2 at Illumina you will work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment and play a significant role in creating genomic analysis tools used in the leading edge of research. You will participate in the design, development, commercialization, launch and testing of new instrumentation and tooling and will also provide support to manufacturing to satisfy the quality, throughput and yield requirements for existing products in a rapid growth environment.

Job duties include but are not limited to:
• Co-ordinate and conduct fabrication and assembly of prototype instruments and test fixtures.
• Perform system level integration and testing to confirm specifications are being met
• Interact with cross-disciplinary project teams in order to meet project milestones and end goals
• Support design of hardware for internal and external customer use from a design-for-manufacturability perspective
• Critical analysis of existing systems for process improvement
• Estimation of timelines and budgeting for engineering development efforts and other such duties that may be determined by Management
• Gather and format information to present to cross-functional teams and management
Education and Experience:
• BS Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, MS preferred
• Minimum 2 years professional experience
• Experience working with high precision opto-mechanical and motion control systems
• Experience with fiber coupled and free space optical systems
• Solid understanding of thermal and vibration factors in opto-mechanical systems
• Solid understanding of machining and standard manufacturing processes
• Experience with Solid Works or similar solid modeling design software preferred
• Experience with JMP or similar statistical analysis software preferred
• Experience with Gage R&R, Process Capability Analysis, Design of Experiments, & Statistical Process Control preferred
• Product development for the life sciences industry preferred
• Experience in biotech, biomedical, nanotechnology or semiconductor industries preferred
• Experience with FDA regulated medical device product development preferred
• Experience in a high volume manufacturing environment preferred
