This position may be underfilled at the Engineer II, Grade 22. Salary: $50,854 - $ 84,163

Employee will be responsible for providing independent project oversight and coordination as a member of the Departments Development Review Team. Duties include representing the Department in meetings with other government agencies and the private development community on issues related to proposed residential and commercial developments; preparing for and leading the discussion of assigned projects in Executive Branch internal subdivision review meetings; conducting detailed reviews and processing of subdivision plans and supporting documentation (including but not limited to MCDOT review fee applications, sight distances evaluations, storm drain capacity and impact analyses, Traffic Impact Studies, pedestrian and bicycle mobility, truck circulation, etc.) for conformance with existing codes and policies, completeness, accuracy, and acceptability; determining required improvements within County-maintained rights-of-way and easements; evaluating the suitability of requested waivers and/or Design Exceptions; coordinating with other MCDOT Divisions; preparing and distributing plan review letters in a timely manner; maintaining complete, accurate records; and providing recommendations on assigned Master Plan documents. Employee is expected to provide leadership, mentoring and guidance to other professional and paraprofessional employees.

Minimum Qualifications

Engineer II - Grade 22

Experience : One year of experience in Transportation, Civil or Traffic Engineering .

Education : Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Transportation, Civil or Traffic Engineering. Registration as a Professional Engineer may substitute for the degree .

Equivalency : An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, provided such combination includes at least 60 accredited semester hours (or an equivalent amount of accredited professional training) in engineering or related courses appropriate to the assigned position .

License : Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicant's state of residence or the ability to perform work at locations outside of the office.

E ngineer III - Grade 25

Experience: Three years of experience in Transportation, Civil or Traffic Engineering.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree Transportation, Civil or Traffic Engineering. Registration as a Professional Engineer may substitute for the degree .

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, provided such combination includes at least 60 accredited semester hours (or an equivalent amount of accredited professional training) in engineering or related courses appropriate to the assigned position .

License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicant's state of residence or the ability to perform work at locations outside of the office.

Preferred Criteria

Resume must include information specific to the preferred criteria listed below. Make sure that your resume references your knowledge, skills, and abilities as they relate to the preferred criteria. 1. Experience in the preparation and/or review of development plans, traffic impact analyses, multi-modal assessments, right-of-way construction drawings, storm drainage studies, grade establishments, record plats and other development-related data.

2. Experience with established engineering practices for roadway design and construction and with government codes.

3. Experience completing and managing multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously.

4. Experience providing oral communication (such as giving presentations, speaking to the public) and written communications (such as report writing, writing correspondence, etc.).

The highest rated applicants will be placed on the Eligible List and may be considered for interview. Employees meeting minimum qualifications who are same grade or higher will be placed on Eligible List as a "Transfer" candidate and may be considered for interview. Note: In the event there are 10 or fewer minimally qualified candidates, all will be placed on the Eligible List as Qualified and Hiring Managers will be required to interview a minimum of five candidates. For "seniority" jobs (as shown in Article 8), resumes will be reviewed and rated by subject matter experts based on the Preferred Criteria.
