ENGINEER

Applied Ecological Services, Inc., an international ecological design and construction firm, is seeking a full-time Engineer working out of our Dundee, IL office. We have a unique opportunity for a person whose responsibilities will include the investigation, design and construction of a wide range of water and related resources projects including river restoration, fish passage, flood management, stormwater management, water and sediment budgets, and water quality. Representative projects include restoration of rivers for bank stabilization, species habitat recreation and water quality and watershed assessment/planning. The successful candidate will have a reputation as a creative solution provider, team player, with personal initiative and a willingness to put in the extra time and effort as needed.

The selected candidate will have strong writing and speaking skills as well as the desire to grow personally and professionally with each project. They should also have a propensity for business development and the ability to immediately leverage contacts throughout the region. They will have a broad competency within the general fields of water resources, hydrology and hydraulics. Demonstrated expertise in the development and application of multi-dimensional hydraulic and sediment transport models to solve practical water management challenges along with the desire to mentor younger staff is essential.

Requirements: A graduate degree in civil or environmental engineering (Masters or higher); a licensed P.E.; and 12-17 years of experience in the private sector or comparable public sector experience. The ability to work in CAD environments. Ability to obtain reciprocity in multiple states required. Experience preparing plan sets with earth moving, grading, and cut and fill balances.

Preferred: A demonstrated record of publications and knowledge of the current state of science/literature in geomorphology, sediment transport, and restoration fields is a plus. Additional training in biosystems, hydrology, geology, geomorphology environmental science, aquatic ecology, or related science industry. NCEES record. Experience interpreting and running models such as STELLA.
