Development of specifications for new complex products and/or services delivered through TDM, ATM, IP, Ethernet, and wireless networks.
Evaluate, select and apply engineering techniques, procedures and criteria using judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
Requires experience in the areas of routing, switching, power, servers, GUI, software/hardware platforms, transport, IP services and much more.
Technologies include VoIP, MPLS, Unified Messaging, IP Video, wireless, and much more.
Project manage and oversee the design, implementation, and technical support of system platforms, products and services.
Work with a number of different industry leading vendors for platform selection, software development, and strategic implementation.
Assists with research, recommendation, and implementation of value-added products and services to enhance the functionality of various offerings to customers.
Assists in the analysis and resolution of specific performance, reliability issues, and system security.
Uses experience and knowledge of hardware and software to provide technical assistance and advice to other departments and to all Network Operation Personnel in resolving difficult technical problems involving transport network equipment. Assists in resolving technical and service problems with different manufacturers and other communication companies.
Supports Product Services in providing new customer applications, through evaluation, research, development, and documentation of new network services.
Oversees, coordinates and provides technical assistance for installation of new hardware and major software upgrades.
Defines and solves problems that vary greatly, within very broad policy guidelines. Assists in analysis and performance of advanced maintenance tasks on all Network systems. Applies broad technical hardware and software knowledge to assist in isolation of issues, as well as demonstrated skill and experience in writing support documentation.
Creates work orders and installation notes, using a wide variety of system tools, for assignment and implementation.
Assists in directing and coordinating activities of workers engaged in technical maintenance and installation of equipment
Provides the Network with analysis, implementation and support to equipment installation and maintenance procedures.
Demonstrates strong critical thinking ability, as well as proven analytical and research skills to resolve unusual and/or complex problems dealing with network architecture and design.
Communicates effectively and concisely both in writing and in speech. Demonstrates competence and mentoring skill. Provides technical on-the-job training and conducts equipment training classes.
Travels to remote sites and Controlled Environment Vaults ( CEVs) to inspect performance and adherence to safety procedures.
Travels to attend training classes in other cities and states, using long distance carrier. Travel may encompass several days, including weekends.
Reports to work on time and maintains a satisfactory attendance record.
Technical training or knowledge: Knowledge of IP routing, voIP, data, video, and background in packet and Ethernet technologies. To remain current with changing technology, periodic training is often required. Knowledge and understanding of Layer 2/Layer 3 networking. Experience with BGP and OSPF protocols. Vendor training and/or certification preferred, i.e., Cisco, Lucent, etc.
Work Experience: Five to seven years of experience in respective discipline of the telecommunications field; advanced knowledge of hardware and software desirable. Background in IP/Ethernet required.
License required: Valid Driver's License
Education: Typically requires advanced degree in telecommunications, computer science, networking or similar discipline, or equivalent work experience.
