SERVES AS A GEOTECHNICAL DESIGN ENGINEER IN THE WESTERN REGIONAL DESIGN GROUP IN HARRISBURG, NC. DESIGNS AND CHECKS DESIGNS OF VARIOUS GEOTECHNICAL PROJECTS INCLUDING BRIDGE FOUNDATIONS, ROADWAY EMBANKMENTS AND SLOPES, SUBGRADES , ROCK SLOPES, RETAINING WALLS AND SPECIAL DESIGNS UTILIZING ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE OF SOIL MECHANICS, ROCK MECHANICS, AND FOUNDATION ENGINEERING. WRITES SPECIAL PROVISIONS, COMPLETES ASSIGNED PROJECTS ACCURATELY AND WITHIN ALLOTTED TIME. TRAVEL TO PROJECT SITES WITHIN THE STATE AS NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE ASSIGNED PROJECTS. THE EMPLOYEE WILL BE EXPECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN FIELD TESTS AND SITE INVESTIGATIONS, WHICH MAY INVOLVE EXPOSURE TO WORK ZONE HAZARDS. EMPLOYEE MUST BE ABLE TO ACCURATELY COMMUNICATE DESIGN SOLUTIONS TO OTHER UNITS AND FIELD PERSONNEL.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
COMPETENCY IN GEOTECHNICAL DESIGN AND ANALYSIS USING ENGINEERING COMPUTER PROGRAMS INCLUDING L-PILE, APILE, GRL WEAP, FOSSA, RESSA, MSEW, GOLDNAIL, SLIDE, MICROSTATION AND GEOPAK IS REQUIRED. EMPLOYEE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PERFORMING MATHEMATICALLY CORRECT ANALYSES INVOLVING SLOPE STABILITY, BEARING CAPACITY, FOUNDATION SETTLEMENT, AND OTHER COMPLEX GEOTECHNICAL DESIGNS AND ANALYSIS. COMMUNICATE WITH OTHER EMPLOYEES AND PROJECT RELATED PERSONNEL IN A PROFESSIONAL AN D RESPECTFUL MANNER. FAMILIARITY WITH THE PROPERTIES OF STRUCTURAL STEEL, REINFORCED CONCRETE AND TIMBER IS NECESSARY TO DESIGN FOUNDATIONS AND RETAINING WALLS. A WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF GEOLOGIC FORMATIONS AND THE TERMINOLOGY USED TO DESCRIBE THEM IS NECESSARY TO INTERPRET GEOTECHNICAL REPORTS AND TO DEVELOP CORRECT DESIGN. QUALIFIE D APPLICANTS SHOULD POSSESS GEOTECHNICAL DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE AN D APPLICANTS WITH GRADUATE LEVEL COURSE WORK IN SOIL MECHANICS AND FOUNDATIO N ENGINEERING ARE PREFERRED. REGISTRATION AS A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER IN THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA IS PREFERRED. A VALID NORTH CAROLINA DRIVERS LICENSE IS REQUIRED.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in the engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina board of examiners for engineers and surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
