To assist with geotechnical engineering projects and perform laboratory testing and field observations of construction materials.


1. Proposal /Contract Preparation

· Communicate with clients to determine their project needs

· Assist in developing engineering and testing programs for projects

· Assist in establishing project budgets

· Assist in preparing and present proposals

2. Performance of Word/Report Preparation

· Establish and meet project quality requirements

· Assist in maintaining and improving the materials testing laboratory in the local office

· Oversee and maintain client, project team and in-house communication during work performance

· Conduct geotechnical engineering investigations including assistance with developing field drilling and laboratory testing programs, geotechnical engineering analyses and report preparation.

· Assist in preparing formal engineering reports

· Review formal engineering reports

· Render advice to clients

3. Field and Laboratory Work

· Conduct geotechnical field testing according to QA procedures

· Perform special inspection services materials testing or environmental services on an as needed basis

· Coordinate technicians to perform field tests

· Perform field tests

· Perform soil boring layout/documentation, utility clearance meets and surveying

· Assist in training of less experienced personnel in routine field work/documentation

· Conduct soil laboratory tests according to QA procedures

· Log/classify soil samples in laboratory or fieldwork, as needed

4. Project Management

· Maintain project file and job status

· Prepare invoice

· Pursue aged accounts

· Assist with developing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures for our Quality Assurance Program (QAP) in your areas of expertise

5. Marketing

· Establish, maintain and build business relationships with clients

· Pursue specific project leads

· Aid in company marketing functions

6. Professional

· Represent company within technical/professional organizations

7. Miscellaneous

· Perform other job duties not listed, as required, to meet department and company needs


Directly or indirectly supervise engineering and technical personnel within the area of assignment


· Assist in deciding work scope of projects

· Assist in deciding content of proposals

· Assist in deciding content of reports

· Assist in providing review of engineering reports


· To maintain the quality of service and work product

· To market the services in a manner that is profitable to the company

· To coordinate with other departments by clearly outlining needs of client with the ultimate goal of increasing efficiency, productivity and communication

· To conduct all activities in a safe, efficient manner


· Education – B.S. degree in Civil, Geological, or related Engineering field

· 0-3 years’ experience in an engineering or science related field

· Engineer- In- Training (EIT) and ability to achieve professional registration (PE)

· Internship or previous work experience preferred, but not mandatory


· Ability to occasionally lift 50-100 pounds

· Ability to perform hand auger borings and field testing throughout the working day

· Some duties outdoors and may be away from main office/laboratory location

· Personal vehicle available for company business

· Regional travel likely

· A clear driving record while employed
