Department Overview
The Electric Estimating Engineering Department is responsible for providing new (or modification of existing) Electric service and distribution system design for both residential and commercial Electric customers in Richmond.
Electric estimating also designs large maintenance projects and provides engineering and design support to Electric construction personnel, both Division and General Construction, during day-to-day operations.
Position Summary
This position will be responsible for Electric distribution and service design for new or existing customers as well as acting as a project manager while working with customers. Project Management responsibilities include oversight of the project from initial application, contract preparation, scheduling of construction and meter installation, where applicable
The position requires up to 15% travel.
Responsibilities:
Prepare cost estimates and construction plans
Make field sketches and prepare layouts for construction of additions or improvements to electric systems of such a nature that the plans and methods are embodied in existing standards, specifications, rules, and regulations
Estimate labor and material costs; obtain joint-pole agreements; licenses, permits, etc., and perform such other work as required to prepare the estimate in final form
Perform customer contact, project coordination, billing, and contract preparation in connection with non-subdivision residential services
Prepare final sketch or layout and cost estimates for more complex jobs from field notes prepared by an employee in a higher classification
Investigate and prepare reports on third-party accidents
Manage electric residential new business or electric residential relocation work.
Qualifications
Minimum:
Possess high school diploma or GED equivalent
Must have a valid Class C California Driver's License or ability to obtain one in 10 days
Internal PG&E employees: Must have qualified on the Physical Test Battery (PTB) and Technical Test (TECH) exams prior to applying External and Hiring Hall applicants: Must qualify on the Physical Test Battery (PTB) and Technical Test (TECH) exams prior to interviewing
Desired:
Bachelor degree in mechanical, civil or related engineering field or any combination of training, education, and work experience.
Experience with architectural, civil, or mechanical drafting and ability to review and understand architectural plans and mechanical drawings
Experience with Autocad (2009 or later version)
Demonstrated experience working with customers on resolving issues or working on projects together
Experience in demonstrating effective project management / process oriented and negotiation skills
Intermediate Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Experience with web-based software (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc)
Familiar with CPUC tariffs (Electric Rule 2, 13, 15, 16)
Strong organizational skills
Bilingual candidates in Spanish, Chinese or Cantonese
Knowledge and experience with PG&E Electric system and construction standards.
Familiar with PG&E Green Book requirement to establish Electric service.
