The Engineering Manager provides the technical leadership and expertise on all process engineering projects, initiatives and current systems. Ensures current processing assets are maintained and improved; new products and packages are commercialized successfully and capital projects and purchases are properly managed. Works collaboratively with R&D, Corporate Engineering, Commercialization and Plant technical services to champion change and innovation. Plans strategically with all resources on new technologies, new products, analyzes and problem solves emerging issues or constraints and provides technical leadership to the organization. Coaches and develops other engineers and/or team members at OSC facilities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides technical leadership in the development of long term strategic planning for the Cooperative's processing platforms. Directs the work of other Engineers to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Collaborates and teams with Commercialization, R&D and OSC facilities and their technical staff, to establish goals, timelines, ownership on all deliverables. Aligns with key stakeholders on vendors, equipment suppliers, etc. Partners with the R&D to understand and stay current with industry changes and trends. Performance management of direct reports and plant process engineers, manage and develop process engineering staff, mentoring, coaching and training. Create network team of process engineers throughout manufacturing facilities to optimize network shared learnings, process improvements, standardization, problem solving, compliance, etc.
Decision-Making Authority/Accountability Level:
Takes the initiative to identify key process improvements and capital requirements. Key accountability is planning and execution of projects or process development/improvement that will meet OSC financial goals, business goals and OSC business capabilities. Project budget and timeline accountability. Process change implementation and management. Ensure compliance to company policies, procedures and applicable food regulations. Develop and maintain systemic communication tools to support technical change within the organization.
Minimum Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:
Minimum Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Chemical Engineering. Strong leadership skills and the ability to read and general technical and equipment drawings Familiarity with Federal and State Regulations (FDA, USDA, OSHA, etc.) Knowledge of the following applications preferred: Microsoft Project, Excel, CAD, SPC, 5S and Six Sigma. Job will require approx. 40% travel.
