This position is for Weyerhaeuser's Cellulose Fibers business in Vanceboro, North Carolina. . As one of the largest softwood pulp producers in the world, this location produces bleached softwood pulp for use in paper and specialty products such as absorbent personal care products, pharmaceuticals, and photographic-based papers. Weyerhaeuser's cellulose fiber manufacturing facilities are located across the United States and Canada.
The Engineering Manager is accountable and responsible for engineering processes of the New Bern Cellulose Fibers mill. This position will lead the implementation of engineering processes and champion best practices to meet customer satisfaction. This position will lead mill capital and major maintenance projects, maintain engineering documentation and pool capital systems, manage mill capital. The New Bern Cellulose Fibers mill is located in eastern North Carolina. The mill is located between Vanceboro and New Bern, NC.
Key Functions: Safety: Accountable for personal safety and for improving the safety of the other employees and contractors working on the mill site. Provides coaching , developing and guidance to Engineering team (approximately 10 Process, Process Control, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) by supporting a value-driven culture and setting performance expectations. Works in concert with Mill Manager, Maintenance Manager, Production Manager and Area Maintenance and Production leaders, HR Manager, and Financial Analyst, to establish and model organizational behavior. Leads the education and training strategic plan for functional area. Leads and uses the PACE process for developing and implementing mill capital projects. Participates as a member of the mill lead team. Interfaces with operations and maintenance to continuously improve mill operations. Owns the mill capital plan and forecasting functions. Serves as a liaison on systems implementation. Leads contractor processes for the mill. Depending on incumbent capabilities and mill needs, may also be required to own or contribute to other leadership functions, for example environmental, process controls, safety, etc.
BS Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) . Minimum of 7 years of engineering experience in continuous process manufacturing. Knowledge of Best Safety Practices. Knowledge and aptitude in mechanical and electrical systems. Demonstrated strength in interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated problem solving skills. Computer literate – capability in Microsoft Office suite of products an asset. Knowledge and experience with implementing capital projects. Experience in developing and implementing team concept and work systems. Excellent skills organizing and planning. Experience in developing and implementing budgets and schedules.
