INTERNAL POSTING - Only Permanent NCDOT Employees or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126 may apply . Competency Level – Contributing. Ability to conduct routine inspections for compliance with contract agreements, standards/codes and specifications. Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in inspection of driveway permits, encroachment agreements, inspection of various contracts including routine mowing and long arm mowing, county let resurfacing, and various other maintenance operations. General knowledge of state and/or federal rules and regulations to determine compliance. General knowledge and skill in the use of equipment and software used for inspection. Ability to maintain standard records. Ability to effectively use verbal and nonverbal skills to express routine or simple technical and/or program concepts and related facts in a clear, concise, organized manner. Work may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Obtain Level III Certification in Erosion and Sediment Control and maintain required documentation on all construction projects within the county. POS# 60020905

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

General knowledge of surveying and methods, equipment and materials used in highway construction and general knowledge of mathematical functions including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. Skill in the use of office equipment such as calculators and computers and the use of computer programs such as Excel, Word, and Access to create and manage reports. Ability to read and interpret such things as construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures; ability to take notes and prepare routine reports; and good communication ability. Ability to obtain Level III certification in Design of Erosion and Sediment Control Plans. Valid NCDL required. Safety Toe shoes required. Must be able to obtain/maintain a valid inmate card.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Associate's degree in the assigned discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require certification. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
