To perform and direct construction material testing, excavation observations and project monitoring requiring engineering, geotechnical and/or environmental disciplines.


Proposal /Contract Preparation

·Communicate with clients to determine their project needs

·Assist in developing engineering and testing programs for projects

·Assist in establishing project budgets

·Assist in preparing and present proposals

Performance of Word/Report Preparation

·Establish and meet project quality requirements

·Assist in maintaining and improving the materials testing laboratory in the local office

·Oversee and maintain client, project team and in-house communication during work performance

·Maintain current working knowledge of applicable regulations, policies, procedures and technologies in designated fields

·Assist in preparing formal engineering reports

·Render advice to clients

Field and Laboratory Work

·Conduct geotechnical field testing according to QA procedures

·Perform special inspection services materials testing or environmental services on an as needed basis

·Coordinate technicians to perform field tests

·Perform field tests

·Perform soil boring layout/documentation, utility clearance meets and surveying

·Assist in training of less experienced personnel in routine field work/documentation

·Conduct soil laboratory tests according to QA procedures

·Log/classify soil samples in laboratory or fieldwork, as needed

Project Management

·Maintain project file and job status

·Prepare invoice

·Pursue aged accounts

·Assist with developing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures for our Quality Assurance Program (QAP) in your areas of expertise

·Assist with report preparation and review


·Establish, maintain and build business relationships with clients

·Pursue specific project leads

·Aid in company marketing functions


·Represent company within technical/professional organizations


·Perform other job duties not listed, as required, to meet department and company needs


·Ability to occasionally lift 50-100pounds

·Ability to perform hand auger borings and field testing throughout the working day

·Some duties outdoors and may be away from main office/laboratory location

·Personal vehicle available for company business

·Occasional travel possible

·A clear driving record while employed


·Directly or indirectly supervise engineering and technical personnel within the area of assignment

·Provides mentoring to lower level technicians


·Develop and/or review project work scopes

·Develop and/or review proposal content

·Develop and/or review report content

·Assist in providing review of engineering reports


·To maintain the quality of service and work product

·To market the services in a manner that is profitable to the company

·To coordinate with other departments by clearly outlining needs of client with the ultimate goal of increasing efficiency, productivity and communication

·To conduct all activities in a safe, efficient manner


·High school diploma or equivalent

·Two year technical degree in a related field is desirable

·12+ years - experience with laboratory and field testing of soils and concrete (asphalt is a bonus) engineering observations of grading, roadways, buildings; OR

·A Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 6 years’ experience in specialty area; OR

·A Bachelor’s degree in a non-related field and 10 years’ experience in specialty area

·Demonstrated proficiency in developing timely, accurate, and detailed project documentation

·Demonstrated proficiency in report writing, experience reviewing test results, project management

·Proficient with Microsoft Office including Excel and Word

·Demonstrated track record of building and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction, which generates repeat business

·Skill in verbal communication, including the ability to explain complex technical information to non-technical audiences

·Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people

·Advanced testing certifications

·Troxler approved certificate for use of Troxler gauge preferred

·ND DOT certifications a plus
