Working under the supervision of a Project Manager, employee is responsible forassisting engineers in solving technical problems in research and development, construction, inspection, and maintenance in accordance to the City’s design and construction standards for infrastructure. Employee ensures that infrastructure and facilities are in compliance with the City’s and construction plans.
Review construction plans for compliance with codes, regulations, and standards; reviews adequacy of permit applications.
Perform construction materials testing laboratory, and forensic material testing.
Under the guidance of project Manager, lays out public works infrastructure projects to be built within the City.
Review plat applications and construction drawings for new or re-platted subdivisions and commercial developments.
Use GIS and CAD to draft detailed dimensional drawings and maps to support other data in relation to Capital Improvement Projects.
Under the supervision of a Project Manager, prepare and process deliverables from engineering and surveying companies, including reviewing plans and specifications.
Provide oversight of public works infrastructure construction contracts let by the City.
Coordinate with outside agencies.
Assist in reviewing and updatingofthe City's construction standards.
Prepare and input data to update traffic models.
Respond to public or other inquiries relative to engineering policies and procedures on specific projects and provides appropriate verbal and written guidance.
Assist in the preparation and maintenance of division construction cost databases.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Graduation from a four (4) year college or university with a degree in civil engineering or a closely related field; and
Must have two (2) years previous professional engineering experience; or
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and methods;
Thorough knowledge of applicable City policies, laws, and regulations affecting Division activities;
Knowledge of engineering related computer applications such as CAD systems, GIS, and modeling software.
Skill in arriving at cost estimates on a variety of moderate to complex projects;
Skill in operating the listed tools and equipment;
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with employees, consultants, other governmental agency representatives, City officials and the general public; and
Ability to conduct necessary engineering research and compile comprehensive reports.
