Responsible for proper operation and maintenance of continuous opacity monitoring systems (COMS) in Power Department.
Coordinate proper operation and maintenance of continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) in Power Department.
Ensures data generated by CEMS and COMS meets standards set by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation (TDEC).
Generates quarterly emissions reports required by EPA and TDEC.
Assists powerhouses with proper operation and maintenance of air pollution control equipment (electrostatic precipitators, bag houses, etc).
Operates and maintains the COMS in Power Department. The Technician takes the monitors in and out of service as boilers are taken on and off line, verifies the daily automatic calibrations have been performed and verifies results. The Technician will also troubleshoot the cause for alarms and other problems that may occur with the monitor and complete required repair logs and reports once problems are resolved. Technician is responsible for daily review of opacity monitor data and quality assures the data recorded and enters data into quarterly reports. The Technician will perform periodic quality assurance tests on monitors and complete the required QA test reports.
Coordinating operation of CEMS. The Technician will interface and work with Utilities Division CEMS Group personnel to ensure that all of the emissions monitoring equipment is operated per Federal and State environmental regulations. This includes ensuring all quality assurance tests are performed on time, periodic maintenance occurs and any required follow-up testing resulting from maintenance activities are also performed on time. The Technician will serve as a coordinator of the relative accuracy test audits (RATA) that occur on an annual basis.
Ensures data recorded by emissions monitoring equipment meets regulatory requirements. Technician will be expected to learn the regulatory requirements of air emissions monitoring and will quality assure the boiler hourly emissions data on a daily basis to ensure the data meets regulatory requirements. The daily review will be made using PI data, the CEMS data acquisition and handling system (DAHS), boiler DCS system data and operating logs.
Generating quarterly emissions reports. The Technician will be responsible for compiling required air pollutant emissions reports each quarter for the area assigned to him/her. The reports use the quality assured emissions data taken from PI and the CEMS DAHS. Reports are compiled using Microsoft Excel and the CEMS DAHS computer software.
Assist with operation and maintenance of air pollution control equipment. The Technician will perform detailed inspections of electrostatic precipitators and bag houses looking for deterioration or damage to the equipment and issue a report that documents the condition of the device along with recommendations for repairs. The Technician will also 'be called from time to time to assist with adjustment of precipitator controls to optimize performance.
The Technician will sometimes be called in by operations on nights or weekends to troubleshoot problems with precipitators, COMs, and CEMs.
