3G System of the Future is looking for a dedicated individual to join the 3G System of the Future Department. The ideal candidate must be well organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects. The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Strong computer skills including MS Office applications are essential. An understanding of Con Edison’s electric system from transmission to customer is required. The Associate Engineer A (1H) requires a good understanding of the electrical distribution system. The candidate must be able to utilize the primary and secondary aspects of the PVL software. The candidate must be able to read and analyze feeder maps, mains and services plates, and conduit and feeder composite plates. The Associate Engineer A (1H) must be familiar with the distribution layout process and has a good understanding of the various distribution engineering layouts and B&A’s. The Engineer (2L) requires an in-depth understanding of electric operations work practices and distribution engineering operations work practices; including layout design and construction, medium voltage and low voltage mapping, PVL analysis and results, and familiarity with appropriate engineering specifications Basic understanding of the transmission and sub-transmission system is preferred. This positions requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred). Associate Engineer A (1H): Requires at least two years of work experience to include 1 year of applicable engineering experience. Engineer (2L): Requires three years applicable engineering experience.
Responsibilities: Develop alternative designs for the existing substation and distribution system to increase asset utilization, increase operational flexibility, and reduce capital and O&M costs. Illustrate conceptual designs, analyze and optimize designs. Identify preliminary equipment specifications, operating, and maintenance requirements. Perform cost benefit analysis. Write technical evaluation reports for conceptual designs, incorporating input from relevant departments as necessary. Interface with Transmission Planning, Area Substation Planning, System Operations, Electric Operations, outside consultants, and other groups as required. Work on implementation of initiatives learned from other utility best practices. Prepare RFPs, funding request, project scopes and schedules. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be able to travel within the Company’s service territory and wear the appropriate PPE when required.
