Prairie State College seeks experienced adjunct faculty to teach evening ESL classes beginning September 2013. Successful candidates will have the ability to address a variety of language learning needs as well as an understanding of the Adult Education ESL population.
How much will I be paid?
Following is the pay schedule for adjunct faculty:
1-2 Semesters $666 per contact hour
3-6 Semesters $685 per contact hour
7-23Semesters $714 per contact hour
24+ Semesters $725 per contact hour
Are there any benefits provided to adjunct faculty?
Each semester they teach, adjunct faculty members are eligible to receive a tuition waiver for one college credit course. Spouses and legal dependents of adjunct faculty members are eligible to receive a 50% tuition waiver for one college credit course. This waiver does not include any fees which may be specific to the course (e.g., lab fee for a science, art or computer course). In addition, adjunct faculty are granted a tuition waiver so they can enroll in a credit Physical Fitness course at the Prairie State College Fitness Center.
Do adjunct faculty members pay for social security benefits?
By state law, all faculty and staff in Illinois public colleges and universities?including adjunct faculty?are covered by the State University Retirement System (SURS); 8% of your pay will be deducted for SURS benefits. For more information on SURS, see www.surs.com. You will not pay for Social Security or earn Social Security credits for your work at PSC.
Are child care services available for my child during the time I am teaching?
Prairie State College has a state of the art Children's Learning Center, which provides excellent care for children of students and staff. Children ages 24 months to 12 years may be enrolled on a regular hourly or daily basis during the daytime. In the evening, services are open to children ages 2 (potty-trained) through 12. No drop in service is available. There is currently limited availability during the day, but greater availability in the evening. An MA in TESOL or Applied Linguistics is preferred; a related degree, TEFL or TESL certificate, or extensive ESL teaching experience is required.
