The College Board, a national educational organization, is conducting a search for an Enterprise Architect, in our Business Technology Department, who will be resident in our Reston, VA Office.
The Enterprise Architect will focus on forward looking technology innovation, strategy and long term planning of College Board wide technology architecture. Incumbents will have the necessary technology and leadership experience, knowledge, and skill to establish themselves as leaders within the organization and to provide direction, guidance and mentorship to technical staff engaged in the development and application of technology, architectures, frameworks, methodologies, patterns, and best practices.
The Enterprise Architect is responsible for creating enterprise technology strategies, architectures and technical plans that are aligned with the College Board’s mission, strategy, goals, and objectives. To accomplish this, this position will both lead and work collaboratively with business and technology stakeholders to establish and maintain the enterprise technology strategy and roadmap.
The Enterprise Architect will maintain awareness and knowledge of the emerging trends in technology, and its usage within the industry, and will apply this learning in the establishment of new and innovative technology solutions supporting College Board’s business needs. The Enterprise Architect will also establish technology and architecture related policies, standards, and guidelines and will provide architectural oversight and support to solution delivery teams.
Succeeding as an Enterprise Architect will require deep technical knowledge, experience and skills – necessary when building solutions to support a single technology or line of business – and a breadth of knowledge in multiple technology areas – necessary when building and integrating solutions across multiple technologies and lines of business in an enterprise environment. In addition, successful candidates will be innovative thinkers and passionate in their pursuit of world class technology enabled business solutions. They will also be strong leaders, skilled communicators, and active partners, adept in interpreting and understanding the needs of the enterprise while translating those needs into technology architectures and solutions that are enduring and of high quality.
Lead business and technology stakeholders in developing enterprise technology strategies, architectures, and plans that align with College Board business strategy, goals and objectives, across key domains (e.g. business, application, data/information, technical infrastructure, security, etc.).
Develop and maintain future state technology architectures and transition roadmaps which meet the enterprise needs as identified during current state architecture analysis and the assessment of gaps and opportunities.
Develop solution architectures for complex, highly visible business initiatives.
Collaborate with key stakeholders to translate strategic requirements into a usable and living enterprise architecture, that is managed using various artifacts such as enterprise architecture/information models, associated meta-models, and structural definitions such as data ontology and taxonomies.
Facilitate the definition of, and adherence to technology architecture and design related policies, standards, guidelines, and best practices to be utilized in the development of College Board technology solutions.
Maintain an ongoing awareness of emerging technologies and industry trends to inform enterprise technology strategy and direction.
Educate, evangelize and transfer knowledge regarding technology strategies, architectures and migration plans
BS degree in Computer Science or related field/equivalent experience. 7+ years of IT experience including development of large scale, complex system architectures. Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in leading and mentoring technical staff in the development and usage of technology architectures and solutions. Demonstrated experience translating business and technical requirements into comprehensive technology strategies and solutions. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain good customer working relationships. Significant experience in developing and implementing reusable solution architectures. Knowledge and experience with solution architecture and design development tools and techniques including OO, structured analysis, and component based design approaches.
Working knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks, concepts, methodologies and modeling techniques and toolsets. Demonstrated ability to adequately plan and meet delivery objectives and maintain adequate service levels in a highly dynamic, complex environment.
Demonstrated critical thinking skill, including abilities in analysis and problem solving.
Experienced in “Systems Thinking” – the ability to break problems into manageable pieces, and to see how the pieces interact with one another and can be assembled into an integrated, functioning, “whole” system.
Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities, and skillful at facilitation and negotiation.
Effective team player with strong emotional intelligence – self awareness, confidence, ability to manage conflict, empathy.
Ability to effectively respond to technical questions and issues – i.e., effective in communicating complex technology concepts to diverse (both technical and non-technical) audiences at all levels in the organization.
Passion for technology, with an ability to understand and assess new technologies, and their potential applicability to business needs in an efficient, effective manner
