The Associate of Biochemical Nomenclature is primarily a desk research position. This individual will be responsible for researching scientific literature and studying regulatory landscapes of pipeline pharmaceutical products to assist in the determination of potential naming opportunities and strategies as well as current and future trends in nomenclature construction. Additional responsibilities include assisting in the creative development of nonproprietary pharmaceutical names (i.e., “Generic” Drug Names), preparation of regulatory submission documentation to national and international nomenclature authorities (USAN Council and INN Committee), creation of drug “Class” names (and other science-based creative nomenclature, as needed).

The Associate of Biochemical Nomenclature will also be expected to contribute to departmental database management by regularly reviewing new nonproprietary name approvals and policy updates, as well as providing project status updates and developing and editing departmental announcements and promotional materials.

Essential Skills:
Background in biology, chemistry, or pharmacy (Bachelor’s Degree Required)
Understanding of fundamentals of molecular biology and their relation to drug development
Ability to communicate high-level scientific concepts to a broad audience
Ability to research pertinent scientific literature to assist in name recommendations
Full proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
Bioinformatics Skills (DNA sequence analysis, i.e., SeqBuilder; multiple sequence alignments, i.e., Clustal)
Experience with reference management software (i.e., Mendeley, Endnote)
Superior written and telephone communication skills
Creativity

Must be able to work at Brand Institute’s Miami Headquarters

Preferred but not required:
M.S. or Ph. D.
Strong expository and persuasive writing skills
