Essential Functions

·

Serves as the central control point at the facility for environmental activities, procedures and compliance, keeps management informed of regulatory issues impacting the assign locations and recommends actions to assure continual compliance.

·

Performs or arranges for environmental regulatory compliance activities at the facility including air, water, oil, hazardous waste and FERC requirements.

·

Collaborates with GDF Suez’s communications group concerning information for news media releases at the assigned location(s), and meets with regulators, other individuals, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the public to discuss environmental issues and concerns.

·

Provides technical support on various projects concerning the environment, stewardship and compliance.

·

Coordinates and oversees site-specific sampling and testing protocols for various governmental agencies.

·

Assists with developing and maintaining the Environmental Management System and the Environmental Coordinator’s Manual.

·

Prepares and maintains relevant reports, records and documentation in accordance with the Environmental Management System.

·

Conducts inspections and self audits covering all relevant environmental issues at the facility and arranges follow-up activities to address areas of weakness.

·

Provides oversight to environmental training programs to insure their appropriateness for the assigned sites.

·

Evaluates site environmental performance and makes recommendations for improvement.

·

Administers MA Hydro hazardous waste identification, testing, storage, handling, disposal and manifesting, record keeping, and emergency response to spills and illegal disposal activities on MA Hydro properties.

·

Provides environmental awareness training and facility specific environmental training.

·

Responsible for regulatory compliance with above ground storage tanks and underground holding tanks.

·

Vegetation management control activities on MA Hydro facilities dams, dikes, civil structures, communication and security infrastructure.

·

Augments the efforts of those involved in safety and training as necessary.

·

Provide on-call system support on a 24/7 basis to generating stations located throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts.

·

Effectively interfaces with all levels of generation station management.

·

Acts as a team member with all employees of IPR-GDF SUEZ staff.

Other Functions

Writes and review technical specifications and initiate budgetary proposals for environmental issues.

Complies with all IPR-GDF SUEZ policies and procedures.

Carries out other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licenses and Qualifications

·

Massachusetts Drinking Water Supply Facilities Certified Grade VSS Full Operator

·

Massachusetts Asbestos Supervisor, Hazardous Waste Manifest approved signatory.

Physical Requirements

Ability to meet highest attendance requirements

Ability to lift and transport fifty pounds; ability to climb stairs.

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

Required Skills

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, regulators and the public concerning environmental compliance and stewardship.

·

Ability to promote leadership, stewardship and honesty in accordance with GDF Suez’s environmental policy.

·

Extensive knowledge of the various regulatory processes and requirements.

·

Working knowledge of electric power plant operations and maintenance practices.

·

Effective verbal communication skills.

·

Excellent organizational skills.

·

Ability to read and interpret environmental regulations.

·

Proficient PC, Internet and related software application skills.

Train staff regarding environmental requirements and procedures.

Excellent problem solving skills.

Must have experience in coordinating vendor support.

Initiative and Independence - A self-starter having strong analytical skills who can work independently with little direction.

Ability to:
Effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects in a real-time environment on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.

Demonstrated skills in the areas of planning, organizing, and project management.

Strong commitment toward adherence to high standards and best work practices.

Ability to quickly respond to changes in generation station operating requirements with appropriate modifications.

Education /Experience

Bachelor's Degree

Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering, Science, Technology plus and the work experience is required.

Required Experience

Nine (9) years of relevant experience.
