Job Descriptions:
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the Safety Officer with responsibility for managing the safety and health issues for the client site including the BSL-2 and 3 laboratories
Serve as the BSO and RO for the Select Agent program.
Ensure the facility is in compliance with all Federal and State EH&S regulatory requirements.
Position Specific
Develop Implement / maintain EH&S policies/procedures in conjunction with Client and user needs
Oversee/conduct employee training for: OSHA, EPA, NIH, and CDC compliance including but not limited to, radiation safety, hazard communication, blood borne pathogens, first aid/CPR, personal protective equipment, fire extinguisher, respiratory protection, waste disposal etc. Maintain training records for this facility.
Oversee medical surveillance program
Complete incident reports and conduct accident investigations; serve as employee point of contact for safety concerns
Research regulatory compliance best practices; make recommendations for improvement.
Chair Safety Committee meetings; participate on IBC and IACUC committees.
Conduct facility safety inspections and internal audits; recommend corrective measures for facility issues.
Submit local, state, and federal applications, permits, approvals, etc.
Compile hazardous and radioisotope waste records and hazardous waste disposal policies; develop and provide training on proper shipping procedures.
Required Experience:
Desired Skills & Experience
BA/BS degree in biology or related field and ten years of related experience or a master's degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must have knowledge and experience in managing safety programs and training for A/BSL-2 and 3 laboratories.
Knowledge of CDC's biological safety and select agent program, NIH Guidelines for Recombinant DNA and understanding best laboratory practices is required.
Knowledge of use of protective equipment and safety protocols related to handling hazardous materials.
Knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations (OSHA, EPA etc.) to ensure facility compliance.
Physical Demands
Ability to pass medical surveillance physical examinations
Ability to sit / stand for extended periods of time
Ability to bend / stoop for extended periods of time
Clear vision with corrective lenses at 20 feet or more
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations
Certified Industrial Hygienist.
Certified Safety Professional.
Certified or Registered Biosafety Professional
