Job Description:

Our office in San Diego, CA has a temporary position for
an Environmental Science Intern. The successful
candidate will work as a team member to support routine
and non-routine assignments related to environmental
projects of substantial variety and complexity,
typically under the direct supervision of a Project
Manager. Those who are extremely responsive,
enthusiastic, detail-oriented, communicative, and
willing to learn new skills are highly desirable.

Typical responsibilities may include:
  • Conduct research related to watershed management
  • Support field analysis of watershed resources
including upland, wetland, riparian and stream channel
  • Compile and compute a variety of data, and help to
catalog and manage databases;
  • Analyze watershed and water quality data using GIS and
statistical techniques; Support watershed and water
quality model setup, calibration, validation, and
application; Develop or prepare descriptive charts,
figures/maps, and tables/matrices;
  • Support watershed planning through application of
quantitative and qualitative evaluation techniques;
  • Perform engineering calculations for BMP or facility
design; Support cost-benefit analysis;
  • Prepare computer programming scripts;
  • Perform writing assignments to contribute to project
documentation and deliverables such as memos and

Job Requirements:
  • Background and academic coursework leading to a
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in water resources,
environmental engineering, or a related field;
  • Education and demonstrated work experience related to
strong writing and communication skills are required,
along with background or training in
science/engineering/planning techniques related to
watershed management such as research, statistical
analysis, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, water
quality modeling, computer programming, and field
  • Must be computer literate and have knowledge of MS
Word, Excel, and ArcGIS;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills,
including a demonstrated ability to summarize and
present scientific data and model outputs in concise,
readable language and figures;
  • Familiarity or experience with fundamentals of
stormwater planning, modeling, and water
quality/biological monitoring;
  • An ability to think critically to formulate and solve
problems related to hydrology, water quality, and
ecological processes;
  • An understanding of local, state, and federal water
programs, regulations, and trends highly desired.
