The entry-level and staff-level individuals we are looking for will enjoy the challenge of working on multiple projects on a fast-paced schedule, working with senior staff to assess sites across the country, and providing field oversight on a variety of projects. More specific details are described below.
Environmental Scientist I
Conduct due diligence and compliance assessments for engineering, energy, environmental, health, safety, and social concerns
Understand and apply environmental, health, safety, and social laws and regulations for the United States as well as other Pacific Rim countries
Conduct field investigation and audit activities
Coordinate the design of sampling plans and collection of soil, groundwater, building materials, and indoor air samples
Analyze laboratory and engineering data
Write technical reports for senior review
Represent VERTEX to our clients in a professional manner
Schedule and coordinate subcontractor activities for projects
Prepare and implement health and safety plans for various work sites where required
Execution of projects in environmental assessment, compliance, and risk management for a broad range of industries, including both technical and regulatory requirements in the field
Frequent travel and/or field work
Able to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with co-workers, clients and subcontractors. Fluent English writing and spoken communication is required. Bilingual skills in Japanese, Mandarin, and other Asian languages are highly desired.
Able to work with minimal oversight, but take direction from project managers, senior managers, and division leaders.
Able to meet deadlines, both internally and externally
Other project duties as assigned by senior staff
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, geology, chemistry, or related environmental, health, safety, sustainability, or energy field
Zero to five years of experience in technical activities directly related to environmental assessment or compliance activities, including report writing and field investigation in any of the following areas:
Phase 1 and Phase 2 environmental site assessments
Property condition, seismic risk, and building envelope assessments
Energy use audits and disclosures
Knowledge & Skills
Must be able to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities, and have the ability to perform exceptionally under dynamic conditions and challenging deadlines.
Knowledge of computer operations and standard software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, Adobe Acrobat) required.
Proficiency or working knowledge of CAD a plus.
Candidates must be authorized to work in United States
Position requires Health & Safety Certification pursuant to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 (HAZWOPER 40 Hour)
Walk job sites during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain
Carry field testing equipment (up to 30 pounds) onto job sites with regularity
