The Epic Credentialed Trainer is primarily responsible to deliver Epic system training in a variety of settings including classroom, at the elbow, private tutoring, etc. and to provide daily support for end users. The role involves classroom instruction through hands on demonstration and presentation of curriculum lesson plans and training materials. The position reports to the Principal Trainer and assists in the ongoing development of the training program for clinical end users. Credentialed Trainers are required to be knowledgeable of both the system and Hospital specific clinical workflows and able to troubleshoot end user issues. The position will also provide assistance to the system analysts by reporting issues and participating in the testing and ongoing development of the system.
II. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Complies with established corporate and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance methods, and safety codes. Demonstrates compliance with licensing, regulatory and accrediting agency provisions as required.
Consistently demonstrates appropriate and professional communication behavior toward patients, customers, and coworkers. Cooperates with Management and peers to promote an environment of teamwork and collaboration.
Delivers class room instruction to a wide variety of end users, primarily focused in the inpatient acute care setting, on the proper use of the application; through the use of role-based training programs, hands on demonstration, lesson plans and the use of training materials. Ensures the classroom and training environment are prepared in advance and ready for students.
Serves as a front line resource to enhance the end user experience with clinical information systems by assisting with immediate system questions that ensures patient flow is maintained; this includes being available as scheduled to cover support centers and being responsive to end user requests.
Maintains current knowledge of the system(s) by attending training courses as necessary, reading published internal end user newsletters, and participating in system updates. Must be able to assist end users with personal workflow at all times.
Maintains knowledge and experience of health care business operations to effectively assess customer needs and problems and identify and provide solutions.
Builds good working relationships and maintains a continuous interface with customers and co-workers and utilizes these relationships to resolve issues and problems and explore opportunities.
Obtain and maintain EPIC credential from Health System Principal Trainer in assigned application module.
Collaborates with the integrated training team including Learning and Organizational Development, Credentialed Trainers, Department Trainers, and Epic Champions to develop application specific training curriculums and materials.
Maintains current training material documentation through approved systems and processes.
Provides demonstrations of system functionality as necessary.
Maintains annual mandatory education requirements specific to position as mandated by Hospital Health System.
Performs all other duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Requirements (experience, training, and education):
To effectively fulfill this position, candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Associates level education in computer science or a health care related field is required; nursing experience preferred;
- A minimum of 5 years inpatient acute care work experience is required;
- Experience in adult education is recommended; strong verbal communication and public speaking skills required and able to build rapport easily;
- Must have strong interpersonal skills and able to work with a wide variety of customers including operational support staff, clinical support staff, clinicians, physicians, etc.; should possess a strong understanding of health care clinical workflows and of necessary clinical documentation in an inpatient electronic health record.
Must present a strong belief in the value of technology to support health care operations and able to articulate technical concepts in a manner that promotes acceptance; willingness to learn and ability to adapt to change. Must be comfortable with technology and have solid understanding of personal computer skills including Microsoft applications, classroom instructional equipment, etc.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
The essential physical demands of the position include lifting 10 pounds overhead, lifting 30 pounds to shoulder height, and lifting 40 pounds to waist level. Additional essential physical demands include carrying equipment up to 50 pounds, and pushing/pulling carts with 30 pounds force. All the activities above comprise up to 33% of the workday. Reaching, handling, and grasping are required frequently (67% - 100% of workday). Walking, squatting, bending, kneeling, sitting, and standing are also required and comprise 34% - 66% of the workday. Climbing, reaching overhead, and twisting are occasionally required (0 33% of workday). Independent decision making is required. Mental concentration is very important to prevent errors or injury. Working with precise limits of accuracy is also required. The total percentage of the job that is preventative is 40%.
