The Anoka County Highway Department has an opening for an Equipment Operator who will operate equipment in the construction, maintenance and snow removal activities of the County Highway System.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY):
Operates such equipment as, but not limited to, single-axle and tandem trucks, tailgate pavers, front-end loaders, backhoes, tractor mowers, skidsteers, and motor graders; plows and wings snow and applies ice control materials; performs seasonal road repair work such as street sweeping, jetting open culverts, re-graveling road shoulders, maintaining catchbasins and spillways, installing cross pipes and driveway pipes; maintains County roads; works with bituminous; finish concrete for curb and sidewalk areas; and traffic control, flagging, set up signing for work zone areas; picks up debris, and cuts brush and trees; reports any equipment malfunction and makes proper equipment checks before each day’s operation; performs minor maintenance operations on vehicles such as adding oil and gasoline; performs daily service on assigned vehicles; attends and participates in all required departmental meetings and training sessions; accurately and promptly completes all required paperwork, e.g. time cards, vehicle inspection reports and incident/accident/injury forms; available for call outs for emergency operations.
High school diploma or equivalent; post secondary education in a related field; two to five years paid experience in the operation of highway construction and/or maintenance equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience; must possess a valid Minnesota Class A Commercial driver’s license and be able to obtain within six months a tanker endorsement; experience in snow removal and ice control operations in a highway road system environment.
Knowledge of: Road maintenance and materials, bituminous, concrete, and pipe installation.
Ability to: Perform minor repairs and primary maintenance on highway equipment; operate equipment as required; work with hand and power tools; engage in strenuous physical activities and work in temperature extremes.
Skill in: Dealing with public in a professional manner.
Must be available on a 24 hour Emergency Call-out basis for emergency operations; may be required to work night shift on a limited basis for snow/ice control operations; appointment contingent upon ability to pass physical examination, drug test, driver's license and criminal history check.
