Stationary and Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer

REPORTS TO: Reliability Engineering Superintendent

Position Overview Briefly summarize the mission and purpose of the position. How does this position add value to the organization?
Lead the Plaquemine Site’s effort in stationary and rotating equipment inspections, tracking and follow up. This position is responsible for the PSM mechanical integrity process as well as all mechanical inspection work for Class II, III, and IV process equipment. Drive improvements in maintenance costs, in equipment reliability and in process compliance through effective management and knowledge. Provide technical assistance to the maintenance supervision in the repair and improvement of all stationary process equipment throughout the plant. The contract stationary equipment inspection group will report to this position.

Essential Functions List the key activities, duties and responsibilities of the position.

  • Oversee the site stationary and rotating equipment inspection program.
  • Improve the PSM MI process
  • Improve the utilization and reporting of UltraPipe
  • Provide technical assistance to the maintenance supervisors in the repair and improvement of stationary equipment.
  • Develop and improve maintenance procedures for repair of equipment.
  • Perform equipment failure analysis to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Perform/check calculations to effect code (ASME, ANSI, TEMA, API).
  • Improve tracking of open SEI work orders and their closure.
  • Bring industry best practices in this area to the site.
  • Site PSV program management

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
List the minimum educational requirements, including applicable certifications of the job (i.e. H.S. Graduate, B.S. Chem Engr., C.P.A., etc.). List the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the job (proficient in Word, excellent verbal and written communication skills, basic understanding of cost accounting, etc.)
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering; minimum of 6 years experience in the petrochemical industry; PE, CMRP, API 510, 570, and 653 certifications are desired; ability to use failure analysis techniques (i.e. 5-Whys, Apollo, Cause Mapping, etc.) to determine and correct equipment problems; significant experience with stationary equipment is required; knowledge of shop processes, API & ASME code, corrosion, metallurgy; and should also be familiar with OSHA’s process safety management standard regarding mechanical integrity.

Good communication skills and problem solving ability. Should have a working knowledge of a CMMS database program.
