DESCRIPTION

The Estimator is responsible for the preparation of a project estimate to include gathering proposals, plans and specifications and related documents. The Estimator I will identify the necessary labor, materials and needed resources to effectively execute the project. Through careful analysis, the Estimator I will prepare costs for labor, materials, and other related project costs. The Estimator I will work with the Estimating Manager to conduct bid determination meetings and ensure the bid documents comply with strategic objectives. The Estimator I will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records as to estimates won/lost and analyze documents to ascertain where improvements can be made.

DUTIES

Strategy - Preparation of a project estimate to include gathering proposals, plans and specifications and related documents. Will identify/prepare the necessary labor, materials and needed resources to effectively execute the project. Prepare costs for labor, materials, and other related project costs. Interpret civil, architectural, structural, and mechanical plans and specifications as they relate to electrical projects.

Organization - Maintain accurate records as to estimates won/lost and analyze documents to ascertain where improvements can be made. Prepare reports and analysis pertinent to construction estimating as requested by management.

Project Management - Visit job site and proposal sites as required, performing estimates and gathering as-built cost data. Timberline Estimating Software knowledge and updating of databases.

Project Updates - Update unit rates and material cost databases to keep current. Update labor and construction equipment rates to keep current. Re-estimate and issue construction man-hours and material costs as requested by client or management.

Planning - Assemble conceptual electrical project estimates with limited information. This to include the ability to assemble estimates in a timely manner and explain the methods used at arriving at estimated costs in enough detail in order to assist in the development of a project budget.

Support - Assist project manager when assembling overall project budget. Work closely with Executive Vice President, operations and marketing personnel, in the development of appropriate bid pricing strategies.

Other - Serves as backup to other positions at the direction of management; and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree Required - Knowledge of specialized principles or techniques which would normally be obtained through a formal 4-year college or university academic program directly related to the work being performed.
  • 3-5 years of experience relative to the position working in a complex organization.
