Provide administrative assistance to the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department. Coordinate Human Resources activities and recruiting, and special events. Coordinate special faculty activities such as Promotion and Tenure and Faculty Activity Reports. Participate as a team member of administrative staff. Provide research administration and other support to the department head of the Mechanical Engineering Department. Serve as knowledge source for EOO, recruiting, special projects and events, and P&T dossier requirements.
Administrative experience in a professional office environment; proficiency with current office computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; exceptional organizational and time-management skills; ability to carry out complex assignments with little direct supervision; ability to communicate effectively with others, on the phone and in person; knowledge of business English; ability to proofread and edit; ability to understand and explain policies and procedures; ability to prepare administrative reports and forms; ability to interpret and use judgment in dealing with people, information, and organizational needs.
Working knowledge of Sponsored Research Administration; working knowledge of Virginia Tech policies and procedures related to areas such as Human Resources, Financial Management, Purchasing, Travel, Budget, Promotion and Tenure, and faculty required reporting.
