Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with children, adults, parents, teachers, and Team Members required. Must be comfortable performing in front of large and small audiences, including one-on-one interactions; theatrical presentations, such as scripted plays and character-driven improvisation; and in a workshop setting. Interaction audition required of all qualified applicants. A significant amount of bending, pulling, and climbing is required for this position. Strong education, science, and/or theatre background(s) preferred.
OBJECTIVE: Enhance the Guest experience by bringing out the inquisitive nature in each individual, incorporating methods such as inquiry, theatre, and demonstration in COSI’s Exhibition Areas, hallways, show stages, and workshop and event spaces. Support COSI’s mission of sparking interest, piquing curiosity, and facilitating the process of learning and discovering more about the world.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:
A. Educate and interact with COSI Guests through involvement in shows, activities, first person interpretation, improvisation, theatrical performances, attractions, Family Workshops, Birthday Parties, Camps and Camp-In, Electronic Education, and special events. Utilize a variety of methods and learning theories to accommodate a wide range of ages, audiences, and spaces.
B. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of the Floor Faculty Curriculum including:
C. Operate the High Wire Unicycle; a unique experience where you ensure the safety of a Guest who will pedal a unicycle on a 1.5 inch cable, 17 feet above ground. This requires a significant amount of bending, pulling, and climbing.
- Philosophy, policies, and educational methods and techniques.
- Function, performance, and operation of all exhibits and program elements.
- Setup, cleanup, maintenance, and emergency procedures.
D. Mentor and supervise youth and adult Volunteers, helping build not only a scientific foundation for success, but also foundational public speaking and job skills.
E. Perform necessary maintenance, setup, and teardown of program materials and exhibition spaces, for daily operations and special events.
F. Assist in training new Team Members; paid and Volunteer.
G. Provide creative input to enhance the Guest experience in shows, workshops, and activities; including the development of scripts, educational materials, and programming.
H. Perform duties, as required, for special events.
I. Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.
J. Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving COSI paid and Volunteer Team Members and Guests.
K. In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy, and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.
L. Perform other duties as assigned by the Faculty Leader for Attractions & Supervision and/or any of the other Faculty Leaders or Programs Team Managers.
