The mission of the College of Extended Studies (CES) at San Diego State University is "To provide self-support education and training to enhance careers and transform lives and organizations." The College of Extended Studies serves as a principal University liaison with the greater San Diego community and provides a wide variety of traditional and nontraditional, credit and noncredit educational experiences designed to fit the life-style and expectations of working adults and other lifelong learners. In addition, CES provides a range of academic and special programs for individuals and groups at various times, in various locations, and via various modalities, including technology based programs -- throughout the year. CES's primary audiences include workforce, military, working adults, and international constituencies. Determining needs for new or revised programs. Developing/applying procedures as needed for new programs. Hiring/assigning instructors and negotiating contracts and agreements with colleges, departments, faculty, independent contractors and vendors. Maintaining continuous liaison with SDSU academic departments and university support services and other units within the College of Extended Studies. Building relationships/collaborations and maintaining continuous liaison with outside agencies, organizations and other educational providers. Coordinating and participating in efforts to evaluate and improve programs and update content. Leading staff and directing program operations and logistics. Ensuring compliance of CSU, SDSU/SDSURF and CES procedures and policies. Developing progam budget projections, negotiating program budgets with all parties, monitoring/evaluating fiscal success; improving cost effectiveness, overseeing reconciliation and distribution of revenue. Developing integrated program marketing plans to include: Identifying target markets Producing promotional marketing copy Personal recruitment as appropriate Working w/faculty & CES staff to develop marketing/ recruiting strategies Working with CES marketing dept. to implement strategies. The incumbent accepts other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Four year degree or equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university, preferably with courses in adult education and curriculum planning Equivalent to three years of experience in planning classes and curriculum for higher or extended education or corporate programs and including developing resources, budgets, marketing plans.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to develop/manage complex projects from concept to implementation preferably in a higher education environment. Ability to determine needs for new or revised programs. Ability to plan hours and develop course outlines with instructors. Ability to locate instructors and to assist them in understanding and completing contract arrangements. Ability to develop budgets and to analyze costs. Ability to develop and implement promotional strategies. Ability to represent the SDSU, CES and the CSU system to the community and to develop working relationships. Ability to manage logistics of providing classes and to analyze cost information and statistics. Ability to lead support staff (i.e. interview, hire, set goals, assign work, evaluate, etc.). Must have competency in the use of standard office software applications to include MS Word, Excel. Must have a valid California driver's license (to attend off campus meetings, conferences, ed fairs etc.)

Office setting. This position includes travel to client locations for meetings throughout San Diego County and the possibility of in or out-of-state travel for conferences if needed.
