This is a 12 month, tenure track (80% Extension, 20% research) position housed in the Department of Plant Sciences. This position is funded half through North Dakota State University and half through University of Minnesota. This person will be located at North Dakota State University but will be expected to work in both North Dakota and Minnesota to accomplish specified responsibilities. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to: provide leadership in planning, developing and conducting Extension and research programs in weed control and cropping systems, which include sugarbeet; prepare educational material based on research results; disseminate research results to the scientific community including publication in peer-reviewed journals; develop teaching materials and provide in-service training for Extension, industry professionals and producers regarding effective weed management systems for successful agronomic crop production; develop collaborative working relationships with NDSU Plant Sciences and College of Agriculture, Food Systems and Natural Resources faculty, University of Minnesota Extension, the Sugarbeet Research and Education Board and the sugarbeet industry; utilize all educational media such as written material, radio, television, Websites, newspapers, electronic delivery, telephone and teleconferences; coordinate Extension and research activities with department and college faculty in a mixture of agronomic-related disciplines; and advise graduate students.
Earned Ph.D. in weed science, crop science or related area; broad knowledge in crop production and weed control; demonstrated ability to work effectively with university faculty, Extension staff, producers groups and the public; ability to generate and apply research results and provide recommendations and guidelines for producers; effective oral and written communication skills; demonstrated skills in computer applications and technology; valid U.S. driver’s license or equivalent.
Farm background or relevant farming experience; and prior Extension experience, experience with sugarbeet, university research or teaching experience or equivalent experience in industry.
