The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a firefighter assigned to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity engaged in airfield and structural firefighting and crash-rescue operations and assist in reducing and/or eliminating potential fire hazards.
Drives and operates firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles.
Performs crash/rescue and firefighting duties at airfields handling predominantly large or complex aircraft. Performs structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities which may include research and/or large industrial complexes.
Performs rescue of personnel and a variety of first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim(s) for transport to a medical facility.
Maintains firefighting equipment and fire station facilities. Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.

(TIG) Requirement for General Schedule (GS) Positions:
Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-05 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral.
The purpose of TIG restrictions is to prevent excessively rapid promotions in competitive service GS positions and to protect competitive principles.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

The employee is subject to random drug testing (IAW HQ-USAF letter dated 29 Jan 1990).
This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle.
An appropriate, valid drivers license is required.
Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
May be required to work the Fire Alarm and Communications Center (FACC).
May be required to participate on Hazardous Materials Teams (HAZMAT).
May be required to perform duties associated with the operation of aircraft arresting barrier equipment.
Employee is required to be certified Firefighter I & II, Airport Firefighter, and Apparatus Driver-Operator for Pumper, Airport Rescue Firefighting (ARFF), and Aerial vehicles (under NFPA standards adopted by DOD).
