This is semi-skilled work involving a variety of food service duties in a hospital food service facility. Work is distinguished from similar classes in that a higher degree of responsibility is entailed in regard to the functions performed and relative complexity of total work assignments. Work is subject to frequent spot checking for appearance, compliance with sanitary standards, and conformance to instructions. Employees of this class may or may not have frequent contact with all persons served, depending on function served.

Prepares basic food items by frying, warming, mixing, brewing, or other means of preparation for serving in a dining facility. May prepare food items with multi-ingredients in accordance with simple recipes or instructions.May participate in and/or provide guidance to subordinate food services personnel in setting up assigned food service counter(s), table(s), or service area(s) as outlined for classes of a lower food service level. May participate in and/or provide guidance to subordinate food services personnel in backing up cafeteria line and filling individual orders for hot foods, beverages, and other food items; replenishes food and beverage items in self-service areas as needed.
May participate in and/or provide guidance to subordinate personnel in the performance of light cleaning and maintenance duties associated with assigned work.
May participate in and/or provide guidance to subordinate personnel in the transporting of food, beverages, and utensils to and from kitchen and serving areas as previously outlined. May participate in and provide guidance to subordinate personnel in the scraping, scrubbing, scouring, pre-washing, and rinsing of dirty dishes, trays, utensils, and other dinnerware as outlined. May assist or serve patrons on an individual basis. Waits on, takes orders, and serves food to customers in restaurant-type facilities. Fills trays for handicapped persons or others unable to serve themselves. Takes food to hospital patients.
May serve as cashier in food service facility on a short term or relief basis. Tabulates food charges, receives payment, rings up on cash register, makes change, and issues receipt. Punches meal tickets and maintains records of meals purchased by meal tickets. Prepares daily cashier's report and verifies cash balance. Obtains necessary cash for making change and turns over day's receipts to superior.
May participate in or provide guidance for others in the maintenance of storerooms, pantries, coolers, freezers, and other storage areas for food and supplies used in food service departments as outlined. May have some responsibility for initiating orders for some types of food and supplies.May perform catering duties as assigned at special events.Conforms to health regulations and standards of cleanliness. Performs related duties as assigned.
