Major/Essential Duties of Job
Provide direct support for the Library Facilities unit and is responsible for entering work orders and tasks in the Libraries' Facilities Help Desk, communicating with Library employees on the status of maintenance issues and reporting status of all tasks, projects and completed jobs. Provide conference and meeting room setup/breakdown: transport and placement of furnishings for events, coordinate efforts with requestor(s) and on-line room reservations. Coordinate crews and conduct activities engaged in the placement of furniture and furnishings in office and public settings, including: disassemble and reassemble, transport, and placement. Maintain office and public furnishings database for all furnishings. Maintain fabric inventory to ensure sufficient amounts on hand in advance of upholstery repairs. Troubleshoot an array of maintenance tasks including: Libraries vehicle problems, climate (heating, cooling and humidity), lighting, electrical, equipment, building finishes, leaks, odors elevators, pest control, air quality and safety hazards. Assist University Facilities Services employees in ongoing maintenance projects, planning, construction, maintenance and repairs. Measure air temperatures, humidity and lighting levels using hand held devices as required; provide results and recommendations to end-users, Libraries AggieWorks administrator, and manager. Maintain tool room, dollies and moving carts. Provide minor repairs and adjustments using hand tools and power tools on Library equipment. Monitor and maintain public clocks. Maintain supply of data loggers, d-loading and tracking device locations. Produce vinyl lettering/signage upon request and approved by supervisor for applications throughout University Libraries facilities. Provide support in all aspects of receiving including: sort and distribute all mail and parcels; date stamp and sign for all supplies and freight received. Document the receipt of supplies and freight, ascertain that supplies, furnishings or equipment received are in the correct quantity and comply with the purchase order. Inspect incoming shipments and notify purchasing unit of any damage or discrepancies. Maintain records of shipments received and issued to library units, items to be returned, and reconciling receipt of supplies and equipment. Monitor and maintain a clean loading dock. Provide services related to the collection and disposal of recyclable materials from Evans, Annex and Cushing libraries, staging materials at the loading dock. Assist receiving office as needed with obtaining recycling supplies and equipment. Maintain areas surrounding recycling activities in a neat and clean manner. Work closely within Facilities unit to provide continuous coverage for facilities and receiving offices during business hours. Act as back-up for building contact in the event of emergency and\or disruption to library services due to weather or other emergency circumstances. Perform other duties as required.
Required Education and Experience
High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Three years in mechanical or industrial maintenance or residential/commercial painting. Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment. Inability to obtain a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License may result in termination. Subject to yearly Motor Vehicle Record/driver license checks. Depending on the area of assignment may require forklift certification or the ability to obtain a forklift certification within 60 days of employment. Excellent customer services skills, familiarity with operating a forklift, scissor lift, pallet jack and other lifting devices. Ability to climb and work from 10 to 12 foot ladders. Ability to lift and move heavy loads. Ability to drive cargo vans and box trucks, move, transport bulk materials, set up furnishings for offices and conferences. Ability to occasionally adjust work hours to respond to emergencies. Requires the ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Education and Experience
Three years experience providing general maintenance for large facilities. Experience with relocating furniture. Strong organizational and communication skills. Knowledge of online work tracking system, databases, spreadsheets, and energy monitoring software. Basic knowledge of computer usage and email. Knowledge of chilled\hot water based building cooling systems and modular office furnishings. Knowledge of emergency planning and response. Flexibility to work with changing priorities.
