DUTIES The Facility Manager (FM) position reports to Lead Facility Manager (LFM) position while also working effectively in cross functional teams across departments within CPS. The position has direct reporting responsibility for 20-25 engineers either assigned to a facility or a specialized work group Achieve continuous improvement ratings from school principals served. Evaluates and provides specific and timely corrective action of each direct report engineer concerning the daily master schedule work plan consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Provides all reports on time as directed by the LFM. Leads implementation of all process improvements as directed by the LFM. Participates in the effective use of continuous improvement tools/techniques. Participates in all Capital remediation work as directed by the LFM. Designs and implements an inventory tracking and usage system of supplies necessary for maintenance and custodial work. Participates in reduction of heating / air conditioning outages as directed by LFM. Implements through direct report engineers all preventative maintenance schedules and develops corrective actions on all exception reports. Participates in vendor recommended process improvement ideas as directed by the LFM. Leads any and all walkthroughs' required by any CPS department concerning FMs assigned asset. Reports the event to the LFM by call report. Is focal point of all actions related to any emergency at a school, including first contact and immediate decision making. Follow up phone contact will be made in this priority: Principal, LFM, Director of Asset Management by FM. Identify all skill deficiencies of each direct report engineer, and report this information on a continuous basis to the LFM. Submission of each call report, timely and complete to the correct distribution list on the expected format. Compliance with all Board rules and policies. Meets standards and targets agreed to in the Performance Management Process with the LFM.
Type of Education Required: Bachelors Degree from a 4 year accredited university or college in a relevant field; or 4 years of experience combined with appropriate training in a relevant working environment. Demonstrated success in: Achievement of all required certifications Some prior supervisory experience Showing capacity to learn techniques in process improvement, team work, and use of effective meetings. Showing above average communications skills. Skills: Ability and willingness to work in teams. Ability to effectively participate in meetings. Is fully capable in the use of CPS office technologies. Attributes: Self-motivated, has an optimistic perception as a teammate, and recognizes that close supervision may be required in both new and problematic situations. Sees and articulates value in working effectively in a team environment. Fosters respect from co-workers and school clients in both difficult and normal working situations. Demands conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement are met as a basic condition of decision making. As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), an employee must be an actual resident of the City of Chicago within six months of the date of his/her employment with the CPS.
