The Opportunity: Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks professional, innovative and detailed individuals for our Field Application Engineer positions at our field office in Fairview Heights, Illinois.

Field Application Engineer (Multiple Openings)

Responsibilities: The Field Application Engineer at SCHWEITZER ENGINEERING LABORATORIES, INC. (“SEL”) is required to develop, maintain, and improve knowledge of power system protection and all SEL related products. The incumbent will apply the principles of electrical engineering in: (1) helping customers apply SEL products through visits, demonstrations, training courses, and telephone contacts; (2) contributing to product specifications, applications, and testing software and literature; (3) broadcasting new information on product applications and testing to SEL international field offices; (4) participating in SEL marketing and sales activities and industry technical meetings and conferences; (5) teaching in training schools for customers and SEL personnel; and (6) following and improving marketing, sales, and engineering quality procedures. In carrying out the required job duties, the incumbent will deploy his or her knowledge of: (1) protective relay engineering theory, industry practices, applications, and testing; (2) theory, design, operation, and formulation of networks used for symmetrical component calculations; and (3) power engineering fault conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must possess, at minimum, a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or related.

All candidates must also possess knowledge, as evidenced by passing a basic technical proficiency test, of at least two of the three following subject matter areas: (1) protective relay engineering theory, industry practices, applications, and testing; (2) theory, design, operation, and formulation of networks used for symmetrical component calculations; and (3) power engineering fault conditions. Note: All candidates for all engineering positions at SEL must pass a basic technical proficiency test related to the subject job.

Candidates must also be willing to comply with SEL’s Drug-Free and Tobacco-Free policies.

TRAVEL: These full-time positions will be based out of SEL’s field office in Fairview Heights, Illinois located at 343 Fountains Parkway, Suite 201, Fairview Heights, Illinois 62208. However, because SEL has numerous customers nationwide, some travel is required, as the incumbent will occasionally and on a short-term basis be deployed to various customer sites. Candidates must therefore be willing to travel to various unanticipated locations throughout the United States on an ongoing basis.
