The Field Claims Representative provides high quality, prompt and equitable property and/or casualty claims investigation within an assigned geographic territory. This role is responsible for the onsite investigation and documentation of claims including: obtaining agreed upon estimates for property claims and issuing payments as appropriate. The Field Claims Representative has payment authority to a designated level.

Essential Functions

  • Responding to initial reports of claims and reviewing against policies to determine if coverage is applicable
  • Building accurate, reliable claims files through prompt and thorough investigation and documentation
  • Inspecting damaged property, writing estimates, and obtaining agreement from local contractors and policyholders
  • Interviewing and taking statements from policyholders, their employees, claimants, and/or witnesses
  • Contacting legal and medical professionals or other outside consultants when appropriate
  • Completing reports and documenting claims activity
  • Valuing damages based on prevailing laws and/or policy language and properly applying coverage
  • Establishing appropriate and timely claims reserves
  • Reviewing and adjusting estimates written by local contractors; obtaining agreement and period of restoration
  • Delivering payment within authority and obtaining approval from Claims Supervisor when required
  • Taking prompt action in the denial, payment, negotiation and/or settlement of assigned claims
  • Communicating regularly with agents and policyholders regarding claim status
  • Participating in or directing the negotiation of final settlements
  • Paying covered losses in a timely and fair manner
Primary Objectives

  • Delivering quality service through the timely investigation of 1st party property claims and comprehensive investigation of 3rd party claims when protecting the interests of our policy holders either through settlement or denial of claims as appropriate.
  • Controlling and reducing loss adjustment expenses through timely and thorough investigation and resolution of claims
Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years experience in the property and casualty claims experience industry
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Maintenance and enhancement of computer skills as dictated by technological advancements and Company initiatives
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written form with agents, policyholders, and associates
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply appropriate mathematical functions including but not limited to: calculation of discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and geometric formulas
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw independent conclusions
  • Associate in Claims (AIC)
  • Business writing
