We are looking for a highly motivated Field Service Engineer, with a strong electrical, mechanical, and automation aptitude to support our customer base in Southern California. The ideal candidate would be able to travel up to 75% in the western states, and provide backup coverage across the US as required for maintenance, repair, and installations as needed. Applicants must possess well-developed communications skills to interact with on-site personnel. This position will report to the Poway, CA office.
Responsibilities: Possess well-developed communications skills to interact with on-site personnel, and exhibit the highest level of professionalism and customer service. Travel to local and remote locations to repair, maintain and troubleshoot mechanical and electronic equipment on short notice. Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on install base. Perform alignments, adjustments and other mechanical tasks according to diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications. Maintain detailed service records for each account in your territory, and supply service reports to effectively communicate results of service activity to customers. Use visual cues, computer software programs and diagnostic tools, to routinely inspect and identify root causes for failures and malfunction. Must have the ability to read and interpret various electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings. Test components using measuring devices, such as Multi-meters, Oscilloscopes, Ammeters, etc to determine whether wiring, boards, and/or parts are faulty. Be familiar with various levels of software/firmware. Know how to download and configure. Contact customers directly via phone or remote connections to research and diagnose issues. Gather logs, interpret, and communicate to the tech support team as needed. Follow up on all open issues as directed and work to provide solutions to the customers.
Required Skills: BS in Electrical/ Mechanical Engineering preferred, AS in Electronics Technology with 1-2 years of field service experience on complex systems with automation. Knowledge of basic electronic and mechanical theory. Knowledge of PC hardware. Ability to troubleshoot PC startup and operational issues. Knowledge of PC components such as network interface cards, serial ports, USB connections and other peripherals. Proficient user of Microsoft Windows and Excel. Understanding of networking, Visual Basic, CAN and a variety of proprietary motion control and other automation applications preferred. Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
