You will be subject to a background/suitability investigation.
This position is located in Bonham, Texas with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 17, Fiscal Service, Network Authorization Office and Payment Center at the Bonham VA Medical Center.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Sorting incoming mail.
Extracting billing claim forms.
Scanning claim forms into the Fee Basis Claims System (FBCS) by appropriate bill type.
Verifying proper alignment of all scanned billing claim forms, making corrections as needed.
Distributing, returning and/or redirecting mail.
Verifying claims received to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Reviewing and processing invoices in the Optical Character Readers (OCR).
Manually loading unscannable claims.
Sorting and mailing vendor letters.
Preparing reports of mail and claims pending/processed/abandoned.
Completing other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm

To qualify for this position at the GS-04 grade level, you must meet one of the following:
Possess one (1) year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the File Clerk position. Examples of qualifying general experience include: sorting and processing mail, checking forms for accuracy and completeness, utilizing a computer to scan documents, and data entry.
Successfully completed two (2) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED (If you do not supply a copy of your transcript, your application package may not be processed.)
Possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience as described above to meet the total experience requirements for the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position (Narrative Responses Not Required):
Knowledge of mail delivery methods and procedures.
Ability to review various billing forms and claims for accuracy and completeness.
Skill in operating computers to scan and verify a variety of invoices.
Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with people of varying backgrounds.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require prolong sitting, some walking and light lifting of medical records. Requires long periods of computer use that may be strenuous to the eyes, back and wrists. Work is normally performed in an office setting that is adequately lighted, heated, ventilated and furnished.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
Applicants will be ranked based on four quality groups, as follows:
Best qualified - applicants possessing experience that substantially exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are highly proficient in all requirements of the job and can perform effectively in the position;
Highly qualified - applicants possessing experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in most of the requirements of the job;
Well qualified - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in some, but not all, of the requirements of the job; and
Qualified - applicants possessing experience and/or education that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors.
After the vacancy announcement closes, reviewed applications are evaluated against the questionnaire responses and placed in the appropriate quality group. Qualified veterans will be afforded preference by being placed at the top of the appropriate quality group. Qualifying veterans with a service-connected disability of 10% or more will be placed at the top of the best qualified group. The best qualified group is the first to be referred to the hiring facility for further consideration and possible interview. The remaining groups may be referred based on the number of applicants available.
