POSITION SUMMARY:

Oversees and manages financial matters, investments, human resources and information systems. Provides direction and leadership for The Family YMCA business operations and strategic initiatives. Assists with development of policies and ensures their implementation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & JOB DUTIES:

GENERAL DUTIES:
*Monitors monthly financial operations, prepares analysis and reports, and gives guidance to operating staff.
*Works closely with operations staff on issues that affect financial outcome.
*Prepares specific recommendations.
*Ensures that legal and audit requirements are met and that best practices and maximum efficiency are obtained.
*Prepares ratio, capital structure, statistical and cash flow analysis, and capital budgeting.
*Manages the staff and oversees the operations of the accounting/finance, information systems, human resources and other assigned departments.
*Pays vendor and creditor invoices.
*Performs all monthly General Ledger closing procedures and bank account reconciliations.
*Works directly with assigned committee(s) of the board to build volunteer relationships, develop policies, monitor their implementation and meet the related needs of the board.
*Reviews, updates, and/or develops internal control systems for the YMCA and oversees internal audits which check for compliance on a variety of policies and standards. Provides recommendations for improvement.
*Oversees and certifies the annual audit and form 990, and meets periodically with the outside auditors to maintain communications and keep them informed of changes in the Y’s policies and operations. Ensures that current accounting standards and legal requirements are met.
*Develops performance indicators and measurement systems for tracking strategic plan objectives.
*Evaluates current business models and leads efforts to modify or redesign business models where necessary.
*Oversees preparation of reports to YMCA of the USA and governmental agencies. Oversees preparation of tax returns.
*Oversees the development of the annual operating budget, including all branch budgets. Works closely with operations staff to ensure that branch budgets are well-planned, realistic, and prepared in a timely manner.
*Establishes, maintains and/or monitors all banking and financing relationships.
*Maintains all necessary records and accounting reports and records all transactions on a timely basis, including government contracts and grants.
Maintains good working relationships with auditors, bankers, investment counselors, attorneys and other professional advisors.
*Represents the YMCA with key community organizations and events as required.
Take leadership role in annual campaign, articulating mission and needs, and leading assigned aspects of the annual campaign
*Works closely with IT staff to ensure that computer and software systems provide accurate information and adequate internal controls. Develops and manages system security, including back up processes.
*Evaluates issues pertaining to information systems for strategic planning and innovation. Researches areas of technology that relate to the YMCAs needs and makes recommendations.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or accounting required; Master’s degree, MBA or CPA preferred.

*Five or more years in accounting, tax preparation, budget, grant and financial management.
*Investment management and asset allocation experience preferred.
*Experience in effectively managing a staff team.
*Experience in non-profit accounting including oversight or preparation of Form 990 required.
*Knowledge of general business matters including budget development, financial analysis and reporting, cash management, business taxes, banking and debt financing instruments.
*Knowledge of computer systems, including experience with system selection, new system implementation and project management. Personal computer skills including alternative operating systems, database and security management, financial/accounting and payroll management software (e.g., DAXKO, ADP) required.
