Reporting to the Senior Director of the Admissions and Financial Aid and Assistant Director of Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Coordinator will be a member of the Office of Student Affairs, with responsibilities in the area of financial aid. He/She will be the primary team member responsible for processing and coordinating all financial aid applications from applicants and continuing students. The Coordinator will also advise applicants and students on school policies, federal regulations, and financial aid eligibility. The Coordinator will also assist with Admissions application processing and recruiting efforts. Job Duties: Counsel and communicate prospects, applicants, and students on all aspects of financial aid such as their eligibility, status, and procedures in compliance with federal, state and institutional guidelines. Maintain and update the PowerFaids financial aid system including updating and verifying student information and assuring accuracy of data and records. Collect and update all financial/income documents needed for verification of aid for all students including but not limited to federal tax returns, W2 forms, and verification worksheets. Collect documents and verify enrollment, legal residency, citizenship, other sibling attending college document/s, and selective service registration. Prepares student award letters based on aid eligibility and program and/or individual budget. Gather all requests for budget and scholarship appeals and revise award letters to reflect the additional costs. This includes collecting and reviewing rental agreements, medical bills, computer purchases, insurance co-payments or any other documents requested by the Assistant Director or Senior Director of Admissions and Financial Aid. Collect student consent to release financial aid information as required by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Work with the other university and school offices to resolve student financial issues. Maintain University compliance with federal regulations and codes of ethics regarding federal student aid and institutional programs. Assist with the processing of all private/alternate loan certifications in ELM and PowerFaids. Assist with loan delivery to ensure timely disbursement of financial aid checks to student from lenders and scholarship organizations. Assist with resolving loan conflicts with lenders, guarantors and servicers for active and consummated loans Maintain and confirm all financial aid workshops and events. Update and maintain the database of external scholarships and grants. Respond to all emails on sonfinaid@columbia public email for the SON financial aid office. Assist in all events for the Office of Student Affairs. Miscellaneous projects as assigned by the Senior Director of Admissions and Financial Aid and Assistant Director of Financial Aid.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Three years of related experience in financial aid regulations/policies and coordination, management and advisement of the same in a higher education setting required. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communications skills required. Must be able to work with tact and discretion in a fast paced office environment with multiple deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with College Board PowerFaids system. Experience with ELM and NSLDS electronic loan processing.
