Position summaryCoordinates access and financial services for patients utilizing our services. Assist with arranging financial reimbursement for services rendered. Establishes pre-payment plans or loans, screen for deductibles and coinsurance, collects up-front payments, conducts charity evaluations and assists the patient in obtaining Public Assistance, when appropriate. Verifies patient insurance and coverage, completes all pre-certifications. Meet with patients to obtain necessary financial information.Technical competenciesActs as liaison with registration to verify and ensure current financial information is correct. Coordinate payment plans according to policiesDocuments and processes financial and pre-certification request for patient referral including but not limited to authorizations, patient procedures, specialist, hospitalizations, physical therapy, DME.Obtains and verifies billing information from providers as needed. Compares information from providers to hospital census or nursing home census to verify visits in professional and timely manner.Meets with patient and family, when necessary, to obtain insurance information at time of admission. Explains insurance benefits and coverage if needed in a professional and courteous manner at all times.Establish auto debit or other secure payment based on agreed arrangements in timely manner.Work with patient and healthcare professionals for financial hardship applications or other payment sources.Enters all daily visit charges, payments, CPT codes and all diagnosis into system after coding is confirmed in timely manner.Tracks patient from time of admissions through discharge for billing necessity in timely manner.Balance daily charges and payments. Prepare reconciliation form at the end of each business day, verifying accuracy in timely manner. Prepare monthly, routine entries to adjust any accounts as needed.Reconcile miscellaneous A/P and A/R, GL accounts and request refunds and handles all appropriate documentation as needed and in timely manner.Work appropriate carrier report and recommends accounts for collection if necessary and in timely manner.Other duties as assigned with instruction from the supervisor/coordinator of office and provides coverage for team members as need or appropriate.Effectively interacts with staffing in a professional manner at all times and covers front desk and assists with check out functions as needed.Provide appropriate communication with patient, family members and staff as necessary in courteous and professional manner.Understands and adhere to all policies in reference to the local and company wide confidentiality procedures resulting in none or minimal incident reports.Complete required annual education via learning compass, if appropriate.Attend necessary orientation, annual mandatory education, annual competency, if indicated.Notify manager of anticipated absence. Must review minutes of any missed meetings.Assume responsibility for learning and growth related to hospital and department employment.Must be able to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.Minimum qualifications Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred. Licensure Not applicable OtherMedical terminology required. 6-12 months of physician billing experience preferred. Knowledge of coding/medical billing procedures required. Knowledge of health plans including BC/BS, Medicare, Medicaid, PPOs, HMOs. Knowledge of medical billing software preferred. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in dealing with patients, physicians and other personnel. Must have excellent organizational skills. One to two years customer service experience preferred.Â
