The RPG programmer analyst will develop new RPG programs and maintain existing RPG programs, work with other HMS departments and clients to work out details regarding specifications for enhancements, and resolve potential problems as identified.
Develop new programs outlined in requirement specifications and communicate with the product team to resolve questions as they arise.
Modify existing programs to resolve problems or add functionality based upon problems identified by the support group or enhancements received from the product team. Also work with both groups to resolve questions as they arise.
Research assignments and document all changes and enhancements and comply with the programming standards and other policies and procedures outlined in the Programming Handbook.
Perform sufficient unit level testing to identify and resolve problems before the modification or enhancement is promoted to the Quality Assurance group for integration level testing. Use QA testing tools as they become available and notify the QA group of new test scenarios that should be added to the test scripts.
Keep track of all time spent on calls, PIFs and other activities (meetings, PTO) and update the call system, PIF system and the time system with this information on a daily basis.
Notify Programming Manager or Team Leader of problems or questions immediately that may prevent or delay work and inform them of changes needed in estimated hours or estimated completion dates for assigned tasks. Attend and participate in weekly team meetings.
Perform modernization to existing programs as required to improve maintainability.
Follow the change control process to ensure that version control is maintained on all programs.
Provide training in areas of expertise and support for training documents necessary to assist clients as required.
Work with other HMS departments and with clients to resolve open calls.
Carry the beeper as assigned by the Beeper Committee.
Attend and participate in HMS job related classes.
Attend vendor offered conferences and workshops as agreed upon with supervisor.
Perform self-study of HMS applications on-line and documentation.
Required Education and Training
Programming experience in healthcare
Bachelor or Associate Degree in logic oriented discipline.
Experience with the following is a must: writing SQL stored procedures, an expert in embedded SQL, creating SQLtables and views and WDSC.
Minimum of 5 years RPG programming experience
Command of the RPG programming language including ILE.
Command of the AS/400 computing environment.
Good oral and written communication skills and documentation experience.
Ability to work well with people
Must be able to work at the corporate office M-F 8:30 AM to 5:15PM
Available to work overtime on an exception basis
Self-Motivated, excellent logic skills, ability to prioritize and well organized.
Good interpersonal skills that include the ability to effectively communicate in both writing and verbally.
Excellent written, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
Must be detail oriented, organized, and have the ability to multi-task.

Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
