2 Shift Gluer Adjuster/Lead 2:45-11:00 PM M-F; overtime as required.

POSITION TITLE: Carton Gluer Adjuster

DEPARTMENT/PLANT: Finishing – Dept. 230/Winona

REPORTS TO: Production Manager, Shift Supervisor

GENERAL FUNCTION:

1. To assist the Production Manager in efficient scheduling of all finishing machines and personnel.

2. Supervise make-readys, production, quality, and waste for all finishing equipment.

3. Assist operators in fine - tuning of gluers to assure the highest quality and productivity while minimizing waste.

4. Responsible for assigning finishing personnel to best serve customer needs.

5. Coordinates preventive maintenance program and equipment repairs with the Maintenance Department.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. Training of all Finishing Department personnel.

2. Oversee machine set-ups and assist in fine-tuning machines.

3. Manufacture or direct Maintenance Department in manufacturing any parts needed to run equipment more productively or with less waste.

4. Ensures that all products, cases, and labels are available in correct quantities for all machines. Advise Production Manager and Purchasing Manager of materials needed in a timely manner.

5. Assists the Finishing Operators in their preventive maintenance program and in repairs of minor equipment breakdowns (belts, etc.).

6. Monitors Finishing Department quality and notifies management of any quality or personnel problems.

7. Makes recommendations to Flexo/ DC and Sheet-fed DC Operators and die room personnel regarding scoring, lineup, and cutting of cartons. Notifies management of any design change needed to improve carton machineability.

8. Maintains acceptable inventory levels for all finishing supplies and advises Production Manager or Purchasing Manager when supplies are needed.

9. Advises the Production Manager of any bottlenecks or production delays.

10. Assigns department personnel or personally assists the Maintenance Department in making repairs.

11. Coordinates production scheduling with the supervisors to make them aware of any production problems and/or requirements.

12. Verifies that all departmental reports are correct and timely and that all changes in methods are correctly noted before the job ticket is turned in.

13. Assist the Production Manager in the investigation of all accidents in the finishing area.

QUALITY ASSURANCE DUTIES:

1. Monitors all finishing equipment to maintain a high standard of quality in folding, gluing and correct configuration of finished cartons.

2. Verifies that all counts are correct and that customer requirements regarding case counts, maximum weights, skid sizes, and heights, etc. are adhered to.

3. Monitors cartons for fiber tear, correct application of glue, glue bleed, etc., and changes glues or application methods as necessary.

4. Works with the Production Manager and Sales to establish and maintain acceptable quality levels regarding score cracking, carton alignment, ink rub, print quality, etc.
Management is always to be consulted regarding questionable quality.

5. Trains all finishing personnel in recognition of quality defects and in the proper procedures to either correct the defect or contact management.

6. Follow Boelter Industries, Inc.’s rules for the Food Safe Product Program and ensure that the Finishing Department personnel are also following the rules.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

1. Full responsibility and authority to operate the Finishing Department within the
Schedule limits defined by the Production Manager.

2. Training of all new and existing personnel as directed by management.

3. Coordinate production schedule with shift supervisor.

4. Interaction with the Maintenance Department and management for the purpose of preventive maintenance, repairs, purchasing of parts and fabrication or parts needed to improve productivity or quality on all finishing equipment.

5. Coordinate with Shipping & Receiving to arrange for necessary skids and cases and for the storage of finished products.

6. Verifies that all methods changes are correctly noted on the job tickets before they are turned in.

7. Assumes the responsibility for complete operation of the shift in the absence of the shift supervisor.

SAFETY AND EXPOSURE TO POSSIBLE HAZARDS:

1. Responsible for maintaining correct operation of all safety guards and equipment in the Finishing Department and for informing management of any safety hazards.

2. Assists in the safety training for all finishing personnel and assures that all Finishing
Department personnel use company provided safety equipment and supplies as specified in company policy, supplier instructions and/or OSHA regulations.

3. Maintains the finishing area and equipment in a clean and orderly manner.

4. Assures that all finishing supplies, chemicals, etc. are stored as specified by company Policy and/or OSHA regulations.

5. Ensures that all personnel and visitors observe company and OSHA safety regulations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires lifting of carton blanks in units (weighing 5-30 pounds) from skids (varying in height from floor level to 60” or more) and placing them in the feed of the gluer at approximately waist height. Occasionally requires the operator to manually pre-break the blanks to assure proper feeding and/or folding. This will require a repetitive motion of the wrist and lower arm and occasional lifting of equipment into the machine of weights of 10-75 pounds. Twisting and bending required when picking up blanks to feed into the machine and when putting parts onto the machine during set-ups. Working with adhesives, solvents and other chemicals and supplies. Working in an environment with paper dust suspended in the air.
